Club song over-played at home games

I am not sure who Bear has hurt by raising the issue???

Like does debating who is playing in whatever position or who we should draft means THAT much in the context of things?, seeing none of us have any power over it why does that have greater merit for some reason??

The swans experience is about more than just what happens on the field. God knows why Bear isn't allowed to raise this as an issue, as trivial as it may be to some of you out there.

I'd rather that they did not play it at all until all those such as myself who are realtively new converts to the game and all those not brought up in Victoria, and anyone who liked Dr Geoffrey E, and anyone who has watched a game of rugby, and anyone who does not know that 'real' supporters call them the Bloods, and anyone that calls out "BAALLL" at the wrong time etc, have left. The song is not for them - its for the rreal fans.

BTW - Tradition dictates that a scarf should not dangle more than 37 and 1/8 of an inch out the window, but no less than 35. Scarves less than 5 years old should not be dangled at all since these indicate that you may be a new (non-genuine) supporter.

I HAVE grown up with the Swans/ AFL culture and think this is the funniest post I have read on this board.

How can a CLUB CHEER SONG be played too much after a win? Isn't the point of playing the song a way to celebrate?

I have always found the "more important things to think about" argument weak. Of course there are more important things to think about, like eating and breathing, but that shouldn't stop you from focussing on less important things.

I guess I am a fairly new Swans fan having only been to my first game last year (Prelim Final) and only a couple this year so can't really comment but even if they only played it once or twice I don't think it would stop the song going round and round in my head for about 3 or 4 days after!! I often find myself sitting at my desk at work on Monday morning humming away and not even realising it!! I do hate when they stop playing the song as you know that's it, time to head home and wait another whole week until you get the chance to do it all again I am looking forward to going to many more games next year and singing the song many, many, many more times

Im not fussed about the amount of times they play it. In fact, it feels great to hear it when you are a few hundred metres from the stadium walking to the car. Thats got to be better than hearing the Bombers song over and over again come Sat night now, isnt it?

Aargh ROK, But I thought the rules were 37 and 2/8 of an inch!!! I 'll go back into the corner and flagulate myself a tad more.

Do you think it would be a problem if I answered my phone part-way through the ring tone, or should i wait for the full song to play/ (out of respect of course!)

What the hell, I've just played the song (shock horror) four times in a row, even five times and the world didn't cave in. In fact, I must admit that I felt a tad happier than I did before doing so! I sat back and recalled the joy of a grand win on saturday. I thought about a win over St Kilda, a come uppance for Brisbane and a courageous effort to beat Port in the final last year. And I just a happy Swan. If I play it again, I might go back to my memories of Kel & Dunk's finale, and Luffy's finale and remember the awesome events and how I felt part of the Club. Memories.... pride.... and always the belief we can do it.

As they say in the classics, play it again Sam.

A. "The Illusion of Control"

Early in my career, when I was just in my 20's, I worked as corporate communications manager for a chain of computer stores called CompuShop.

One of my duties was to organize and manage the logistics for incentive trips that the top salespeople won as rewards for exceeding their sales quotas.

On one trip, to Acapulco, I was asked to hire a motivational speaker. The man I chose was a guy named Ken Crockford. I liked him a lot.

When we actually got to Acapulco and I heard Ken's one hour talk, I learned a lesson I've never forgotten. I was recently reminded of that lesson and decided to share it with you, now.

The lesson focuses on salespeople, but the same principles apply regardless of what area of your life or career you want to apply them to.

Ken stood in front of the room with one of those big pads of paper on an easel next to him. He drew a big "T" on the top sheet of paper. He then asked the salespeople in the audience to raise their hands and share their opinions on why they weren't selling even more products and services, despite the fact they'd all exceeded their quotas.

One by one, the salespeople raised their hands and moaned and complained about all the "problems" they saw, especially with management of the company, and the strategies and systems currently in place.

Ken patiently listened and listed everything they shared on the left side of the paper on the easel. My guess is he must've wrote down 55 "problems" like these:

The company doesn't stock the right products
There isn't enough inventory in stock
My manager is terrible
Our pricing is too high
The economy is in recession (locally or nationally)
We don't have enough support people
Not enough advertising and marketing
Lousy advertising and marketing
On and on.

Then, when there was nothing else to share and the room went quiet, Ken asked the audience a critical question that changed my life and that I hope changes yours too.

Here it is:

"Of all the things we just wrote down, how many of them can YOU control?"

He then went down the list of 55 items, one by one, and had a discussion with the group about whether they could control it or not.

If they could control it, he moved it over to the right side of the "T" on the paper. If they couldn't control it, he left it where it was. When that exercise was complete, out of the 55 items on the left, only 5 were moved to the right!

Then Ken said ...

"If you spend all your time working on the 5 things you can control, and stop wasting your time and energy on the things you can't control, your sales and income will soar."

Boom! An amazing insight zinged into my brain that I've never forgotten, and that I've acted on ever since.

So here are a few "million dollar" questions for you:

What's stopping you from getting what you want in your life or career?
How many of those "problems" can YOU control?
Which ones can YOU control?
What would happen if you just focused on what you control?
If you do an exercise similar to the one I just described, and you start focusing all your time, energy and money on the "issues" you can control in your life, the quality of the results you get will soar.

Guaranteed!

Do the exercise right now, while it's fresh on your mind.
