Just out of interest would this deal if it eventuated put any pressure on your salary cap as Jude was supposedly asking for $300,000 pa or do you have a few players retiring or going onto the veterans list?

We have (most likely) Mercuri and Misiti retiring at the end of this year.
Mercuri's contract was huge as has been heavily reported so thats some cap relief there, this year Misiti was playing on around 60-100K so thats a little bit but not much.
We'll have players like McPhee who are currently on sub-100K getting salary increases. McVeigh would be on 100-200K by my guesswork so we should be able to afford Jude as long as he doesn't want too much more than the 300K mark.

There would undoubtebly be pressure on the cap to fit in a 300K salary, but if the club is considering it they'll make/find room.

Firstly, there have been absolutely no suggestions at this end that Jude is looking to get out of Sydney.

Secondly, he would seem like a strange target for Essendon given that it seems to be real pace through the middle that they lack. Jude is no slow coach but nor is he overly quick. Our real midfield pace comes from Maxfield, Williams, Crouch, Schneider, Fosdike and others. Jude gives us toughness around the packs, which even our speedsters provde to some degree but he is one of the more kamikaze we have. Essendon already seem reasonably well endowed in that respect, with the Johnson boys, Peverill et al.

Our midfield group is overloaded with flankers.
J Johnson, Hird (when he plays there) are the only true midfielders we play there. Peverill is improving and getting there, but he'll never be a damaging midfielder.
Mark Johnson is better served on the back-flank.
Solomon is developing into the role, but again at this stage is a better defender.
McPhee may get there, but again is more of a flanker.
Bolton is a ball-winner, pace is overrated, there's no use being 100m sprinters if you:
          1. Don't have endurance.
          2. Can't get or use the ball.
Bolton would replace the Misiti of old in our lineup. Freeing up MJ to move back to defence and Solomon to continue to develop into a good midfielder without having to carry the load.
Plus our recent draftees have plenty of zip.

If Jude is the pretender/trade-bait that some on here think he is, then do you think someone with Kevin's experience is going to want to fork out big bucks for him.

Lets say Kevin was too stupid to pick up on Jude's shortocmings, would Jude want to go where the heat would potentially be scolding? From what I can see, Jude plays the position he wants to with a lot of support from the Coaching staff. There is a risk when you change clubs that they may not afford you the same support to play your favourite positon the way you want to play it.

Jude will sign for $300k with Sydney and that is a Sydney salary so there is no point in changing clubs for the sake of it because when Jude turns 31 or 32, he can go back to Victoria and live a long and fruitful life into old age. Not like Melbourne is the best address on the continent and he MUST be there now.

yeah, no reason to stick around, especially as Delta has run off with The Poo.

I think it goes without saying that Bolton is worth every bit of 300K, and as such if Kevin Sheedy was to consider him a viable trade option he would command a starting midfield position. Plus if he trades the 1st round pick Jude is worth, he will give him the full season to work himself in, you don't trade and pay for a player like him if you're not prepared to back him in even if he hits a slump, to do otherwise will only heighten media scrutiny and increase the pressure on the player - resulting in long-term problems.

Just get rid of Fosdike, where is he from?Maybe trade for Crawford?
Your obviously on Drugs! What would be the value in Crawford?

Swans give Essendon Give Swans Mark McVeigh and 1st round draft pick. Swans give Essendon Bolton
Haha Im going to email this one to Rove as a what the!

I agree with Footyhead if we are going to make a GF the time for hard decisions is at the end of this season, we have a couple of players who would make resonable trade bait we need at least 1 more high quality player - midfield or KPP but I still think LRT will become that KPP.

I do think the player we could have a hard look at is Ottens, this will give LRT more time to develop and would give us another attacking option.

                  Cheers

                    Am not.

Value of Crawford would be an experienced midfielder at a high level grade while the youngsters develop.Just as Williams was.

I would love if we could get Koschitzke. Would cost us 1st and 2nd round picks, but what a player; CHB/CHF/Ruck and he's a NSW boy. Has he re-signed with the Saints ?

Would be great if we could get him, on White line last night Aussie Jones was saying how there had already been talk amongst the Saints about taking pay cuts to ensure the group could stay together.

Big difference here, Crawford at 30 coming off various injuries..Nah!

Moot point anyway would never happen,

and how many games did LRT, Rogers and James get while Schauble was on the sidelines? Hardly ready-made CHBs.

The very fact that players are pushed beyond their comfort zones , is what often brings out the best in them when they go to a new club. Players know this and it's one of the reasons why they move.
Bolton at a different club surrounded by other good and very good midfielders with a good coach could well excel.
Bolton at our club on a very high salary with the expectation which goes with it to be the no 1 midfielder may well never reach his potential.
This is why a trade with Essendon (as long as we get real value), could be in everybodies interest.
                                Do it Jude.
