I was just wondering what everyone thinks the chances are of us getting him to play with his brother next year, since he was probly the best don player on saturday, i would love to have him.

I would take him - however not for draft No 1. I am sure that Sheedy will want Say Barry Hall and 1 other KPP, round 1 selection in the draft and $500K compensation....

Didn't he only sign a 1 year contract? Will he take his chances on the open market???? Better the devil that you know than to end up at !@#$$% lower half team....

I would say that round 2 selection and ?? Pleased that it is not my call as all player have attractions and detractions. (fence sitter)

Watching him last sat made me think we should not get him. Last thing we need is another "hard-nosed" midfielder small defender type who tackles hard and creates ball ups rather than anything else.

We already have a better version of him in Crouch.Comment

Good call Will! It is a polished midfielder with brilliant hands and quality feet that we need.Originally posted by Wil

I have a few thoughts on this guy:

He is a rowdy, angry young man who I think is psycho.

He is a hard nut on the surface at least and when Stu retires, we won't have any aggression in the midfield at all (though Monty might have some grunt).

He's pretty whispy and really needs more bulk for the aggressive style of play.

His game on Saturday night was the best one I have ever seen him play, so I am yet to be convinced that he is any good at all on a consistent basis.

I don't have an sentimental NSW bais for Mark. Not hankering to see him back in NSW.

In 2 years Amon Buchanan could be very very good. He is willing to play tough and in the packs. He has the skill by hand (brilliant in fact) to get the hard ball out. When the hard ball is out, his delivery by foot on Saturday night was amazing.

Forget McVeigh, Monty should get more game time and he is going to be our best midfielder in 2006.The Pain of Discipline is Nothing Like The Pain of DisappointmentComment

Exactly what I was thinking on Saturday night when I saw a hard-nosed midfielder/small defender type, who has better disposal skills than most of our hard-nosed midfielder/small defender types, rack up 26 possessions in a losing teamOriginally posted by Wil

We already have a better version of him in Crouch. I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Has anyone ever got the better of a trade with Essendon?
I mean they got the Pick 6 last year for Danny Jacobs FFS.
Hate them as much as you like, but their trading guys obviously have talent.

Still if the McVeigh brothers want to play together (which IMO is pretty soft and doesn't often work out) we may end up having to deal with them. Mark would certainly get a game in our team, so Round 2 or Fosdike is probably balanced.Comment

 Re: Mark Mcveigh

Essendon thought so highly of his performance on Saturday night that they had him flogging raffle tickets for a new car out the front of Windy Hill on Monday night. As no-one was out and about at 8.30pm on a cold winter night in August, McVeigh looked like a real goose on his Pat Malone....Originally posted by Slick Swans

Also, McVeigh has an ego the size of NSW, as every time I have met McVeigh through Joe Misiti he has asked the old favourite line " Do you KNOW who I am ? " !

Being the smart-arse I am, I say back " I don't know, did you work with Joey at Keilor Council !? ".

This was very funny the first time back in the Spring Carnival season of 1997/98 when he was a new buck at the Bombouts...Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looks like a girlfriend,That I had in February of last year, It's not confidential, I've got potential

Drafting for dummies: Never trade with EssendonOriginally posted by midaro
Has anyone ever got the better of a trade with Essendon?

Even look at the mercenaries who left after their last premiership. Not one has made any real impact at his new club

1998 National draft Andrew Bomford Traded by Essendon to Sydney for draft selection 36 which Essendon used to pick up :drumroll: Danny Jacobs

But there's more. Essendon used pick 6 last year to pick up Kepler Bradley, avid Swans fan

Moral of story is Andrew Bomford = Kepler BradleyComment

...makes you want to tell M McVeigh: "Try the Pre-seson draft, or we're not interested". All he has to do is cry and say he wants to go home, and no one else will take him.
