How are the Lions the AFL 'lovechild?' I hate these sort of epithets.

yeah especially having to play their prelim at the MCG. i never want to hear any victorian say the word 'concession' again unless they are a student buying a bus pass.

If it happened it would be the ultimate villain to hero story. I wouldn't be surprised if he went close. He's had about 5 BOGs which will put him right up there.
He was in the top 2 for contested marks in the AFL which means he would have caught the attention of all the umpires and ultimately they should be rewarding the best players.

I think Brett Kirk at 70-1 might be better value.

I think I'll get me some of that.

How arent they the lovechild of the AFL.
Players from other clubs dont seem to get the same treatment as they do from the tribunal, and how else can they keep a team of that caliber together and win 3 consecutive premierships? And lets not forget the drug cheat lynch.

Anyway its my opinion, i didnt force you to feel the same way. We get the same concessions also, however cost of living is alot more over here. And quite frankly i dont even agree with the salary cap concession that we receive. I dont even know where all our money goes to anyway, we dont have the stars that victorian clubs do even though we have that extra advantage.

I respect the lions for the great team that they are but the fact is that they did it with extra advantages. There will be some who can ignore that, and there will be others like me who cannot.

And by the way the AFL had to move the prelim final to the MCG because they have contractual agreements with the MCC.

              a) It was reported last year that the Swans weren't using it - they were paying pretty much the "normal" cap. It is probably more accurate to say they were using the COL allowance but that this was compensated for by having few big name players requiring hefty salaries.

              b) Aside from Essendon, where are all these "stars" that the Vic clubs have that we supposedly don't. St Kilda has a lot of bright up and comers that will be starting to cost them a bit but most of the other clubs have no more genuine stars than we have, particularly if you base on ability and performance rather than hype.

Well thats great that we dont use it. I didnt know that we didnt.

Even if we did, i would still love the club, but that doesnt mean i have to agree with every decision and process that has been set up for us.

And yes, st kilda will struggle to keep their team in the up and coming years. But they got that team through good trading and years of absolute crap that resulted in priority picks (which is another hot debate!). Hopefully we can snag some of their young blokes for our list

In your question of the stars evident in victorian clubs, just to name a few clubs

Collingwood have Buckley, burns, tarrant, fraser, Rocca and to a lesser extent licuria and woewodin.

                St kilda has been addressed

Carlton have kouta, stevens, lappin, fevola

                Essendon u have outlined

Demons have neitz, Yze, White, Johnstone wouldnt be that cheap and Half of woewodins salary

Even richmond have Richo, Brown, Johnson, Coughlan.

Compared to our Goodes, Hall, Williams, O'Loughlin (perhaps), Barry (perhaps)

Now given our extra cap, i thought we could afford more then the average amount of stars that other teams have besides the lions (fab four, lynch, brown, power, pike, mal michael etc etc etc etc)

Collingwood and Essendon are the only Victorian teams who have been successful recently. The others had lists that were most probably in the rebuilding phases. Now i dont think the adelaide and perth teams have concessions but they too have alot more stars then our swannies.

I was just wondering where all the money went to, but as you have mentioned we didnt spend all of it, which explains it.

well i dont see how them moving a final from the gabba to the MCG proves that they dont favour the lions. THey would have done the same thing if it were the power, the crows, the eagles, dockers or us.

I think the AFL would be delighted if the lions were to win 4, 5 in a row. Just wish they would lose a few of their players and see if they can still do it. Then they can unquestionably be the greatest ever side.

Anyway back to the topic, Hally at 31 bucks for the brownlow is great odds. 13 dollars for top 5 finish is good too. Might have a visit to the TAB this week...

given his inability to win justified free kicks you wonder how well the umps are disposed towards him.

Their players are willing to get paid a hell of a lot less than they gcould get elsewhere to win premierships. They realise that even getting paid less than they could get, compared to the broader population, they are still paid damn well.

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The fact that Barry doesn't get many frees should not impact on his chances of the Brownlow if everything was fair and even.

Does he back chat the umps that much?

How can he be ignored when he is the highest in contested marks, kicks 60 odd goals, gives plenty of goal assists, takes numerous marks on the lead, works hard up the ground in contests and stands out the way he does.

His last 10 games have been very special, I hope he gets recognised for the great team player he is.

                                Interesting sideline to the Brownlow.

The boy Matthew Bate I have been touting as a top U18 player won the Morrish Medal (B&F in U18) today.

Top effort given he is a bottom age player who is not eligible for the draft as he is too young, and did not play in the Nationals.

Told by Ricky Barham that they have had him under notice for a while.
