You would think so, but in the 4 times a Friday Night Prelim Final has been held, followed by a Saturday game, only once has the team who played on the Friday Night won the Flag and that was North in 99. St Kilda in 97, Kangas in 98 and Melbourne in 2000, all lost their Grand Finals despite having an extra days brake.
    Once was, now elsewhere

I know what you're saying. I was reading this stuff and was trying to stop myself from replying with anything too nasty, but thought, I'll make one comment and leave it at that.

Anyway, I dont think it is being negative, I think it is being realistic and sensible.

Heard on the radio a short time ago - 100% confirmed the PF is on Friday at AAMI.

I'll be happy to play then but won't be able to make it unfortunately.

Two night preliminary finals, eh. I predict there will be a night grand final within 3 years.

What a huge disadvantage to the Lions (assuming they win the PF) - not only do they have one day less to prepare but won't be able to get back to Brisbane until Sunday.

Meantime the Swans will be home by Saturday lunchtime (he says touching every piece of wood around him)

Believe me, it's for your own good. If you have never been to a big game at AAMI with lots and lots of very nasty, very scary, feral scum inbred Port supporters (go on, count the number of deformities each one has), fate has shown you mercy. You are better off watching it surrounded by your Swans friends at home/in their home/at the nearest pub showing it live. At least you'll go home alive at the end of the game.

AAMI sucks big time as a venue as well. It's the pits when its cold, wet and windy (which it often is). However, I have noticed that they have replaced those cold, back destroying metal bench seats.

                    It's official!!

THE AFL confirmed today Brisbane would have to "host" its preliminary final at the MCG.

Port Adelaide will host either Sydney or St Kilda on Friday night, September 17 at AAMI Stadium.

No we aren't. I simply cannot take a Friday off work with under a week's notice. I'm going to have to be shrewd on Friday to avoid getting into a lot of trouble with my present job. And am worried sick about it at present as is. (Am contemplating not going at all.)

The question is, are the AFL interested in supporting away fans going to matches. Or will they pander to the interests of TV companies out for an extra greasy buck from Friday night TV advertising. This applies for BOTH St Kilda and Swans supporters.

I feel I have right to be able to to every match if I want. Playing finals and giving people 1 week's notice is just not enough time.

And no I'm not happy about just going to a bar and watching it in TV.

This is my reply to this issue on Bigfooty.

Just saw on the AFL website that the prelims will be played at night.. this together with the two night games last week, the two night semis means that only 3 day finals are played.. i am sure that the wizard cup is the night premiership not the one after 22 rounds of home and away footy where a...

Tell me about it. Anyone on RWO knows how upset I am today. Basically the only way I could get to Friday's game was to lie to my employer to get the day off. But working in travel, they checked with Qantas. Boom, my name on the 10:30am to Melbourne. I'm now no longer going to Melbourne for the game, after having made a conscious effort to get to EVERY Swans match this year. (Yes, my ticket is available if anyone wants it.)

I'm so distressed I am beyond consolation; my reward-the possibility of ANOTHER Friday night final next week and near-dismissal from my employer today.

The thing that hurts me the most is that I have derided the NRL and rugby league at great length for pandering to the TV audience rather than the loyal fans who follow their sides around Australia. I always thought that the weight of pressure placed by supporters who go to games in our game would always hold swap over any push to satisfy TV revenue of a greedy TV station. Under Demetriou, I am sadly sadly very wrong.

I see this as a black black day in the history of Australian Rules Football. To be honest I just wish Demetriou would fall under a bus at the moment. As I, like the legion of fans who want to make a difference, making the sport colourful with our chanting and flags, am now less important than the people staying at home in their comfy armchairs whose idea of passion is throwing a beercan at the tele. I feel quite hurt and even more cheated.

What is the bet that the AFL will start Sunday and Monday night football as well soon?! It is up to us as football supporters to stand up to maggots like Demetriou. Just as the Pro 15:30 movement did in the German Bundesliga. As footy is OUR game. The game of the Barrackers in the Outer.

And so it should always remain.
