Very intersting, perhaps you have shot me down with that Inside 50's stat.....
Where do you get your stats ? Does it list CLANGERS as well as I would be very interested in seeing them for the year.
What the bloody hell is a clanger? Another useless stat . In the past five or so years the statisticians ( not a bad job by all accounts - they get paid quite well) have invented a vast array of meaningless statistics.Eg What the hell is a hard ball get? And what does it prove? A load of bulldust IMO.
Channel 10 (esp. Steve Quartermain) gives me the irritates in this regard. Always quoting, displaying and getting excited over puerile stats - "Number of inside 50's" - whats the point if you're not kicking goals? So what?
Clangers is a nearly useless stat as it is too subjective.
What they are trying to do is copy basketball, which has turnovers, however it's a different style of game.

One problem with clangers is that it doesn't include certain stuff ups, like making the extra unnecessary handball that puts players into trouble, or passing to a player in the open, missing them badly and either resulting in a ball up or forcing the team to reset and tbus missing a good opportunity. It also doesn't reflect missed tackles or being too far from your opponent.

Rather than "clangers" they should be called "MFU's". They could then encompass a few more things. But as has been said already they are too subjective to be of any real use. Does a kick to a contest at the top of the square well marked by an opposition back count as a clanger?
