I have given this a lot of thought and have picked players that the Swans can afford to lose if the trade is right.
We'll start with Goodes.
OK, he was injured this season, but that really isn't any excuse for not playing up to last years Brownlow medal form.
Don't let winning a players highest individual award last year allow you to think he is anything more than an average player.
Sure, he can play just about any position around the ground, seems to have an astute football brain and temperament, I think it is time to offload him before he ages beyond a time when we can trade for him.
My suggestion - straight swap for a round 2 pick.
O'Loughlin.
I wrote him off at the beginning of the year.
I had a bad feeling that he would not be able to recover from his dodgy knees.
He did, and even though he became probably our most targeted played in the forward line when he struck some good form, I think he is simply not needed. Hall, O'Keefe, Davis, Schneider, etc etc.
We have more than enough to cover him.
In a way he is dead wood, and I think perhaps that even though he has shown loyalty to the club and is no doubt a star when in good form, we could let him go as a part of a deal to gain a young inexperienced player, and hope that that player develops into some sort of star too.
Saddo is outta here.
I won't elaborate too much, but he was in poor form.
Sure, he became important to the team, but he got injured.
And now he is still injured at the wrong end of the season.
Trade time.
I mean, he is of no use to the team if he is injured, so I suggest maybe swapping him for a delisted rookie from some other team.
That would be a good deal.
Ablett did more than Roos expected of him this year.
But he didn't become a possible all-Australian selection, so I can see why he should be up on the chopping block.
I'd suggest delisting him outright.
Would probably be the best deal we could get for him.
Maxfield - OK, he IS our captain, but he simply doesn't have the impact he did as a 25 year old.
He HAS to go.
Age is no excuse for not being able to run as fast a Crouchy.
Sure, he is a hard nut, who can lay a tackle, and ride a bump, and he may well be quite a great leader from how the players seem to feel about him, but what room do we have in the team for a player of his age? He' splayed well of late, but I am thinking that our 'youth policy' demand that we let go of him, and I am thinking that maybe if we packaged Maxfield with our other 'over the hill players in Willo, Schauble and Ball" we could maybe get our team a second round pick.
Another great deal
Sadly, I expect quite a few people here will think that I was being totally serious right up until they read this last line.
