isn't this of enormous credit to our recruiters? the real art of recruiting is not just getting the best available player, but the player that is going to perform best in our team. schauble is by no means a superstar, but his role in the team is critical and gets the job done (and more). williams is a champ, but was precisely what we needed at the time. barry hall was a problem child when we grabbed him, as was plugger to a lesser extent.

apart from anything else, were it not for injuries magic would have one two of three b&f's for the past six years and most of our best (leo, tadgh, kirk, goodes, okeefe etc) are home grown.

sounds like we've got them seriously worried at punt road.

i hate the tigers with a passion. they are the last of the dinosaur clubs and still have no idea that the world outside tigerland is a big big place with many clubs more significant than theirs. wallace's old-school "heart, passion and values" rhetoric is a perfect fit for their backwards, introverted view.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Wallace is a Smart Bloke he's just playing games.

Showing the Richmond faithful that he is one of them and looking to use the oldest line of "its us against them".

He can say what he likes - if Ottens is not happy with Richmond's offer and wants to leave then he's gone - only question is do we have other clubs willing to pay the money he is demanding if a trade is not completed.

I am sure Alan Joyce, Libber and David Smorgon are available to debate Wallace about loyalty and payments....any time, any place!

I was a Richmond supporter before I moved to Sydney in 1986 (because I was a Glenelg Tigers supporter in Adelaide). I now hate Richmond with a passion. Everything about that club sickens me, including their coach (whereas I always thought Frawley was a decent bloke). I cant wait to see Sydney whip their lame arses in 2005.

actually ottens is about the only thing i liked about richmond so if we get him then all the sweeter. they might actually break free from collingwood and port in my estimation and become the club i deride first and foremost.

Let's hope you never run for the board.

Trading is a fact of life. He may not want to leave, but I don't think going home to Victoria will be that awful for him.

You can sell and rent out propeties you own from memory.

As for not wanting to play for Wallace- I have no idea why on earth why he wouldn't want to?

Interesting character is Mr.Wallace. Left the Hawks for money to go to the Bulldogs as a player.

Coached the Bullys on a fat contract, so it is fair to say he has got his fair whack out of the dogs.

Got out because they were sacking staff, so he says, and couldn't bear the heartache. What utter crap. Thought he was getting a filthy big cheque from Sydney that's why he left.

Greases his way into the media until a bigger cheque arrives in the form Richmond.

As a media commentator says what he thinks supporters of each side wants to hear. This is almost plausible until he starts his hypocrisy on player poaching (just sucking up to Miller as this is his line about Sydney). He was cunning though, because as Bulldogs coach he was always postulating about everything AFL, thus creating a media "type" profile. He is now part of the media clique. I wonder for how long if he fails miserably.

This is the man that says he is a "career coach", yet appears only to follow the dollar and bails when he looks doomed to failure.

By gee he really must have a massive ego or just conveniently forgets one thing when he criticises Sydney for not developing players. That is: his record on developing players at the Bulldogs is appalling. He was supposed to have the best group of young footballers going. He takes them over with an existing side of some talent, gets them into the finals, recruits used players, fails to develop youth and bails out when they appear doomed to the wooden spoon race.

Some track record. Now he starts by chasing at least one Bulldog player he failed to develop.

Spare me please of your ongoing squeeky diatribe Terry and get on with career coaching.

There's two points that amuse me:

                              1. No club has "homegrown" talent anymore, because no club has an exclusive selection zone anymore (unlike Brisbane, Port and the WA clubs when they got set up). The only thing clubs hold on to is the ability to "create" great players from a young age. Strangely enough, these are most often strong draft choices that were granted originally because the club was crap to begin with, or traded cleverly... so much for any club trying to claim their players are purely the result of "excellent recruiting" or great coaching.

                              2. Wallace has probably done more for us in our quest to keep our salary cap concession than any other major team coach in the last ten years. Just keep telling the Melbourne media that there is no good talent in Sydney, because invariably people will realise we need help to attract the good players from elsewhere. Of course we up here know the fallacy of this argument, but it serves a benefit.

Well lets look at the facts. Lets look at the current Swans team compared to Wallace's old team and new team

Swans players taken from other clubs: 7

Barry Hall, Nick Davis, Craig Bolton, Paul Williams, Stuart Maxfield, Andrew Schauble, Jason Ball

Tigers players taken from other clubs: 6

Darren Gaspar, Nathan Brown, Rory Hilton, Greg Stafford, Kane Johnson, Shane Tuck

Doggies players taken from other clubs: 7

Daniel Bandy, Nathan Eagleton, Steven Koops, Ben Harrison, Jade Rawlings, Matthew Robbins, Peter Street.

Now which list would you rather have ?

Also blows Wallace's theory out of the water.
