If Ball is in any equation, forget about having to do any choosing.

    Absolute gun.

Hope they don't spend all there chips betting on Ottens and find out later they could have had Ball.

Because of the salary cap. Reports are that other clubs have offered Ball $500-$600k per year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Swans have let it be known to his management that they'd be prepared to pay that much for him as well.

He probably won't necessarily prefer the club that offers him most money - always assuming he doesn't elect to stay at the Saints, which must be an exciting option for him given their list - but he will command a healthy salary if he changes clubs.

Although the Swans, we are led to believe, have been paying at the lower end of their salary cap for the past two years, it will be tough to fit two $500k players in and leave room for the natural improvement (and hence cost) of our younger brigade that we need if we are to flourish.

I doubt Jason Ball is on a huge amount at the moment. Willo and Maxfield are probably on pretty healthy money but it may be a year or two before that relief is felt. Ideally the McVeighs, Schneiders, Bevans etc of this world will be "demanding" that increase when it becomes available. Kirky probably isn't motivated that much by his pay packet but must surely deserve a rise given his past two years. Bazza is worth more to us than any other player (most certainly including a Ball or an Ottens) and deserves to be paid as such.

We can afford to pay more but don't want to be right up at the top of our salary cap limit.

I also dread to think what the uproar would be like if we snared both Ball and Ottens by offering them $500k+ and outbid every other club in the process. The Salary Cap bridage will be marching straight to AFLHQ and knocking down the door.

While we quietly exit the back door with a couple of premierships tucked under the arm

was i the only person on this board to read this article? it was posted here on RWO by timthefish before rd 22

as much as ottens would be great, i would much prefer to see goodesy back in the ruck. long-term - have doyle in the ruck for the first 20 mins of the quarter while goodes plays the first 15 mins of the quarter on the wing, take goodes off for 5 mins and then have goodesy ruck the last 10 mins of the quarter. that would be a formidable rotation.

Today's Age says Ottens is going to Gellong as he doesn't want to leave Melbourne as his brother and mother live there. We don't want another mummy's boy.

              Just my thoughts.
He plays very "loose" in defence. Quite a few times I was appalled at him playing so far off his man that it cost us some crucial goals - too many to itemise here ...

Why is it when guys are close to their families they are considered "mummy's boys?"

Playing loose man in defense means he isnt accountable for any one particular player, but is trusted to use his instincts and reading of the play to get to the best position to help out his teammates. I think he can do this job very well, but the opposition will be onto it in a flash and send an extra forward in to make him accountable. Therefore, it wont work so Roos should just let him play ruck-rover.
