    Pathetic

-Warfe and McPherson should not be in the team!
-We should be blooding youngsters like Powell and Ablett.
    -Williams was very quiet
    -Goodes played well
-Kirk did a great stopping role on Headland who was kept very quiet.
    -Kenellly was ok
    - Davis did some good stuff.
-Ball was beaten when in the ruck but he did ok and is on track, coming back from injury.
All round, after the first quarter and a short rally in the middle of the 4th we were pretty lazy.
We seemed unable to keep up with the pace of the dockers, who seemed much fitter.
But its a learning process so i wont complain too much

Didn't even see or hear the game thanks to the lack of Melb. coverage, but I'm not really surprised at the result. Warfe has been too slow for years, but McPherson can be dangerous with his long kicks.

Looking at the overall tally of kicks, marks etc, they were clearly all over us. I wasn't surprised at all

Oh well. It is a rebuilding phase.

Definitely back to the drawing board. I suspect we'll see a couple more of these this year, in amongst the big performances - we just do NOT have consistency, and it's been that way for a while.

        My observations:

        - Schneides not overawed by the occasion at all. Great effort to get back in there after the finger dislocation. Has guts, pity about his shot for goal

        - Senior guys like Frosty, Mathews, Nicks NEED to stand up.

        - Williams was nowhere to be seen - tagged out of it?

        - Nicky D has tons of talent but gives up too easily.

        - Barry Hall managed to not hit anyone in frustration in the last 2 quarters. Well done

        - I like the cut of Craig Bolton's jib. Consistent and one of our best today

        - JB put in his 2nd consecutive solid performance.

        - Goodes is doing the best he can, but he is NOT a ruckman.

        - Bally is so incredibly not match-fit, but every minute he plays without breaking something is a bonus - we'll need him firing.

        - I thought Coruch, Fosdike had good games.

        - kudos to Freo. they pressured us after we were good early... played close to our guys, and managed to get their own players free. took their chances, we didn't.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

We struggled after 1st quarter . Badly beaten in the mid field and ruck. Hasleby was brilliant with 37 possessions. Our forward line was well held and we were outpaced all night. Tadhg , Craig Bolton and Fosdike showed good form in parts while a lot of our players went missing for very long periods and had me wondering if they were even on the field.

Freo are very hard to beat at Subi but we showed some very obvious weaknesses and hopefully we can pick up for the
          Adelaide game.

Just got home from the game, the boys looked tired even before half time. Hope they can do better next week.

Over 2 quarters without a bloody goal!

How crap were we during the second and third quarters? Fremantle are a team of kids, yet especially Hasselby led us a merry dance towards the end of the 2nd stanza. We had opportunities to score, but Nicks and co missed goes from inside 20 when we had the game to be won.

Where were Willo and Boofa during the last 3 quarters? We simply got nothing out of the ruck. They showed the stats of Freo 30 to us 7 in the ruck. Without control of the ruck contests we simply were starved off ball.

Playing Saddo as a floating loose man in defence proved to be a tactical failure by Eade, as at that stage the Dockers got several easy run-in goals.

as Des said, back to the drawing board. The Crows will be stung by their lost against the Saints. We'll have to cheer them extra loud if we are to get up against them

Ah, its footy season again. Time to get FRUSTRATED!

Easy to sum up tonight's performance- woeful disposal and wasted opportunities - particularly in the fwd 50.

I would hate to see our clanger count- no doubt Jude, Fosdike and Goodes would figure highly- decision making was also poor.

Craig Bolton was sensational in defence and even set up a couple of goals when he went forward. Clearly the swans best.

BBB was hardly seen after 1/2 time, but delivery was poor and young Haddrill did a great job.

I thought the defence did it's job quite well, with Saddo, C Bolton and Mathews teaming well - just a shame that the midfield couldn't take advantage of their good work.

Midfield was way too "loose" - Brett Kirk (IMHO) is clearly not up to AFL standard- he tried hard, but was chasing tail all night. Crouch and Willo certainly weren't at their best but rarely play 2 bad one's in a row. Fosdike also needs to exert more defensive pressure. No doubt we missed "Cresser" at the stop plays.

Forwards wasted too many opportunities (particularly 2nd qtr) and didn't put enough pressure on the Freo defenders . I thought Nicksy looked dangerous all night, but didn't have his kicking boot on.

On the positive side Stevens presented all night, Schneider was lively (considering he copped a dislocated finger) Saddo and Bolton as stated and good to see Jason Ball and Schauble get through unscathed- both will be better for the run. Kennelly would be in the best, some nice runs up the wing and stiff not to jag a goal.

To be fair, Freo are a 5-6 goal better side at home and all credit must go to them. Bell and Hasleby killed us in the middle and Simmonds dominated the ruck. They look to have found a couple of good young defenders in Woods and Haddrill.

Just illustrated "Roosy" is spot on in not setting the expectations too high- with such a young list there will be ups and downs- particularly away from home.

Can't wait for Magic and Fixter to return, with Kirk and Warfe to make way.

                    What a shocking game!

What amazes me is how people here are having a go at McPherson and Nicks. They were two of our better players all night and if it wasn't for them we would have lost by far more. Wake up to yourselves and start looking at all of the other blokes fumbling, giving the ball up, giving away free kicks etc etc.

Warfe is an absolute joke. He can't kick, run, tackle, or handball (well at least not to a bloke in a red jumper). I would put Mathews and Fosdike down as shockers. Both get plenty of the ball but they stuff up the most easiest things. Under no pressure at all, both constantly failed to hit targets.

The positives were Schnider, Kirky and C Bolton. I thought C Bolton had an excellent game and as we saw last week will be an excellent acquisition to our defence.

I noticed the H/S had Brett Kirk as BoG for Sydney, but he didn't seem to do too much statistically. Was he tagging somebody? And how bad is Bolton's knee injury?

Where was Willow. Was he even on the track. It showed how missed Cressa is now when you waste Bolton on Bell. Cressa can do it so easily and snare possessions of his own. Frosty played surprisingly well, as did Schneider.
Someone wrap up Warfe in a bag and mail him to the most Northerly part of the world please, ill pay for all costs involved. His kicks and handballs were embarrasing as were his shot at goal. Maxfield had a quiet one.
All our guns were out of sorts. We missed all those who didnt play eg. Cressa, Fixter-we needed a small back, Leo was terrible on Medhurst. He tried for a few too many miracle grabs and the racoon simply outclassed him. C Bolton was awesome. Doyle is sorely missed as shown by Goodes having to ruck for the out of form Ball. Magic is needed back to strengthen our pretty poor playing forward line. BBBH dropped far too many marks on a lead and his confidence seemed astray.

                          we were outplayed by freo

everytime we had the ball freo manned up tightly, soon as there was a turnover theyd run off their man way too easily... the weather forecast for perth yesterday was 30, is that why they looked horrible in the third and second coz they were just not used to the heat????

it seemed to me that it was like a preseason game and roosy had trained them that morning or something...

when i first saw j bolton with his knee injury it looked to me like a dislocated knee cap but it obviously wasnt as he was running freely uo and down the boundary line

i thought kirky played really well, mathews should be making way for fixter not kirk

Mathews is a key player, IMHO. He does well as a small defender, clears the ball out of defence well, and can play as a midfielder or tagger. I certainly don't think Fixter has shown anywhere near enough to be regarded as a superior player to him.
