    Jolly

Would love to see Sydney chase hard for Jolly I wouldn't mind paying a little over his trade value rather than trading half our list to get Ottens.
Surely a deal for Jolly could be done quickly allowing enough time to chase a midfielder or two.

I would like to see us get

    Jolly
    Midfielder such as Johnstone
Gilbee (contrary to popular belief this kid can play as you only have to see the interest he is creating).

This is the approach I would prefer - get a reasonable ruckman, a great midfielder, and then another midfielder (good to great depending on what's available).
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Would prefer Simmonds to Jolly, even though he's a bit older and would cost a bit more. But agree with the idea in principle.

If we were to secure Simmonds somehow it would pull the rug from under the feet of Richmond. Not only do they think they are getting Simmonds for next to nothing, either in the PSD or by threat of taking in the PSD, it would also reduce the number of serious suitors for Ottens to one - Geelong. Richmond would then either have to back down on their ridiculous claims for him or see him go (prob to the Pies) for nought in the PSD.

I'd prefer Simmonds then Jolly.Don't want Ottens as much as those too.

Mentioned on SEN that Swans were after Jolly for pick 28 (I think).

Do you mean our second round pick, #31? #28 belongs to West Coast

In lieu of ending up with zip and enduring another middle of the table home&away result next year and considering the players that seem to be on offer I would settle for a direct swap with the Demons - Johnstone plus Jolly for 1st round draft pick, Fosdike and Saddington.

This truly is the silly season, some of the decisions by clubs and players look really weired (or worse IMHO).

Nathan Thompson's gone to North, where as a ruckman/forward he will need to compete with Rocca, McKernan and Petrie.

StKilda by chasing Whitnall seem to be making an effort at stockpiling key forwards in an effort to corner the market ~ they plan to move Ko****ske into the ruck (what a waste of a key position player) and Hamill into defence.

Meanwhile poor Geelong seem unable to entice a key forward to be spoonfed by their incredible young midfield.

And as for the Swans we now seem to be chasing Jolly. Who unlike Simmonds/Ottens/Thompson has shown no ability to hold a key position down. However even though he's relatively untried in the ruck, nonetheless if we take him IMO we will pretty much end Doyle's career.

Do any of these (or some of the other trades being discussed) seem weired?

We are drafting for height, but not in defence, we may trade Saddington and Powell what do we end up with........a shorter defence than ever!

We should be looking for a bigger bodied backman as much as anything!

I'm quite happy with Jolly + a gun midfielder, rather than Ottens and an average midfielder.

A bigger bodied backman bar Livingstone!

We really do need that ruckman by the end of the week, Jolly or Ottens either one will do, but preferably Jolly.

                        Why Jolly,
Is it the name? Are people sick of Doyle?
                        It can't be Jolly's ruckwork
It's only been seen for about 12 minutes a game.

As to a backman ~ I thought we should have tried for Croad last year ~ doesn't seem much about this year.

McKernan's pretty much finished and Rocca can't have too much longer. This will leave Thompson has their key ruckman, with ability to play forward.

Or perhaps they will turn Whitnall into a CHB, which he is quite capable of playing if he regains his fitness.

I don't think he's untried. He was reasonably good in 2003, however Melbourne like to run Jeff White for most of the game (best way to play him) hence leaves little time for Jolly in the ruck.

So he's filling the same role for Melbourne as Doyle does here! That sound like a reasonable definition of untried to me.

As for North, I think North's primary ruck is going to be Hale. Thompson's no sping chicken, yes he's younger that Rocca and McK but only a little. On the other hand that's their problem.

I suppose I should put mu faith in Roosy but I may be coming down with silly season nerves that we'll get nobody or worse yet a liability that will cost us.
