I will not be unhappy if, as it now seems. we miss out on obtaining Ottens. IMO Ricmond is asking a a lot for a player who really has not played very well since 2001 and has a history of a crook back and other injuries.

Unless a rabbit is pulled out of the hat very quickly it appears we will not obtain a gun mid fielder nor a star ruckman. That will be OK as long as we do not trade for some very average players from other clubs. Best to use the draft wisely and pick up more young talent I think.

Yep. I'm just hopeful that trade week ends before we do something stupid. A little over 38 hours to go.

There's nothing to be gained from trading for trading's sake.

I wouldn't write us off yet, in regard to obtaining Ottens. If Geelong and Richmond can't reach a deal, Richmond will start to get very nervous as they won't want to lose him for nothing. As will be the case if he goes in the PSD.

Yeh, Sydney is just waiting in the wings waiting for the Cats to rollover on the deal. Wait and see some panic from the Tiges by Friday when they face the fact they may lose him for nothing in the PSD rather than trade successfully.

I agree. I can't help thinking we will end up with jack or a dumb trade if Geelong don't sort out the Ottens deal until 1 p.m. tomorrow.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Relying on Collingwood to do a trade means the Geelong deal is doomed.

              He's ours.

I think there is a good chance we'll get Ottens, given that Richmond will now get Simmonds and they'll be keen to get something for Ottens.

Hopefully if we do we don't give too much away.

Would be nice, but not as exciting as if we managed to get a gun midfielder - this is where we desperately need help.

Why do you think that the people at the club, the professional experts, would do something stupid? Why do you have so little faith in them, to the point of being rude enough to suggest that they may do something stupid? Was trading for Hall, Williams, Schauble, Maxfield, Davis, Ball or C. Bolton stupid?

I can't really see how we'll land Ottens now . . . given that Geelong is his preference.

If Richmond get panicky, then they'll take Geelong's best offer.

If they hold firm, then Collingwood will take Ottens in the PSD.

We won't get a look in either way, will we?

Unless Richmond remain at an impasse with Geelong and we step in with a deal that is slightly better than Geelong's.

Oh, I have a lot of faith in them. I think Roosy and Ireland are two of the best football brains in the business.

But, faith or not, all the talk this year has been on 'aggressive trading', but the players worth aggressively trading for are rare this year. The players that ARE worth aggressively trading for, it seems we're trading for TOO aggressively.

There seems to be a risk this year of things getting a little carried away.

BTW - I'm relatively sure that Roosy wasn't offended when he checked this thread to see if I approve.

It's an unfortunate, but unsurprising, polarity of Swans supporters - blind optimism or realistic pessimism!!

pessismism seems to be a legacy of the old South Melbourne and early Sydney days, when we werent playing on a level playing field with the other teams, so little could be expected.

For the last 10 years we have been on a level playing field, and one of the powerhouse clubs, and no reason to think anything other than optimistic thoughts.
