Swans, Lions in clash with Bledisloe Cup

Swans, Lions in clash with Bledisloe Cup
    By Mark Fuller
    October 8, 2004

This is a great way to stick it to the other codes - give us some equality in the media!!!

Our fixture is released - Rugby League has not released theirs..... An interesting game is about to be played...

Hope it is a double header!!

I would pay $120 a ticket for the 2 games.......

Mod Edit: Sorry guys, please don't post the full text of articles from other sites - a link will do.

If that was the going rate, you wouldnt be the only one. $120 will be lucky to get you into the Bledisloe by itself!

It's almost impossible to get tickets to the Bledisloe Cup.

This is a disgrace. Why the @@@@ does the ARU need to schedule its game on the same night? I think that the AFL should consider this a declaration of war by the ARU and make it clear to them that if they ever want to use Telstra Dome, to back off right now and schedule the Bledisloe Cup game on the weekend before or after.

I have no problem if we have to move the game to Sunday arvo at the SCG (or something similar) if:

          - The ARU work with us to avoid ALL schedule clashes in the future.
          - The SA deal is restructured to make it more profitable to play there.

By moving, we should expect something in return from both parties.

If the game has to be moved from Telstra Dome, the Swans may have to pay penalties for not playing 3 home and away games at the venue. If that happens, the NRL should compensate the Swans in full for those penalties.

Its Telstra stadium, and the ARU.

But if its moved it will TS forcing us to move, so they need to provide the compo.

Our game against the Lions needs to be developed as a genuine "rivalry" blockbuster at Stadium Australia. The SCG in my opinion is out of the question.

Weren't we all suggesting before the draw was released that Brisbane should be one of the 3 blockbuster games at Homebush?

That aside, am I correct in assuming the ARU put in their request for Telstra Stadium before the AFL? If that is the case, then it has been a major stuff up by the AFL. How could something like that be overlooked.

The last paragraph of the Age article makes the whole situation with the TV broadcast interesting too.

I dont beleive thats the case at all. The ARU may have informally mentioned that is there prefered date, but they are yet to finalise their draw, so nothing is signed.

The AFL on the other hand, have cemented their draw.

Legally, the AFL appear to have the ground.

Well I hope you're right. Let's hope that if that is the case, the AFL stick it to the ARU by not backing down. Let the ARU re-schedule. They certainly have never done the AFL any favours in the past.

As mentioned on bigfooty, the ideal situation for all parties. RU fans, AFL fans, etc, would be to play the bloodyslow cup in Brisbane this year.

But I suspect ARU greed will scuttle any hope of anyone outside of corporate Sydney seeing the RU showcase game.

problem is that isnt in the best interests of rugby people at all. Much smaller capacity in Brisbane, so the fans miss out, and that also means the ARU miss out on a lot of money.

Boo hoo. Corporate Sydney miss out on one year, whereas Corporate Brisbane get to see its first Bloodyshow since god knows when.

Is RU so insular that it cant play one game outside of its home area ?

brisbane is as much rugby's home as sydney is. the problem with any of brisbane's venues is that they are all about half the size of telstra stadium. this means the aru miss out on a ****-load of money, regardless of if it is sydney people, brisbane people, or martians going.

I'm sorry barry, but i just do not think you know what you are talking about. It is ok to be angry about the clash, but your solutions to it make no sense.
