The bottom line is that do not expect anything more than 5th-8th next year. This is exactly what the AFL wants. Just strong enough to get a final bench but not strong enough to win it. @@@@, how many more years do they want us to wait????

That would be my assessment too.

2004 is over, but I choose to be optimistic about 2005. A good run of injuries and who knows!

I'll start the sacrifices for the Injury Gods...

More negativity! Shoot, Barry Hall cried at the Club Champion dinner for crying out loud. If that can't take us to a flag I don't know how you think a big back man and a crack midfielder are going to!

With our list and Barry's emotional outpouring I'm tipping a minor premiership by three wins, and 5-8 goal wins in three finals...

Simple, there wasn't one on offer unless you wanted Fiora from Richmond.

Did they telecast trade week somewhere ~ did it become a reality TV show?

I find it hard to believe that the only players discussed behind closed doors in 5 days of negotiations were the handfull that got mentioned in the media, don't you?
I happen to think that a combo of Fosdike/Saddington/Doyle for trade this year is far more agressive than last years rumoured Seymour/Nicks combo being shopped around. Out rumoured three player swap for the necessary pciks to gain Ottens was also ballsy in terms of depth and team harmony.

As for what is discussed behind closed doors, who knows. But if you look at what we had on the table this year it just goes to show that unless you have a big name player up for trade clubs will only ever really have a narrow band of players up for trade. This is despite the bullshot thrown around in the media about all players bar a couple being off limits.

Even Darren Jolly would not have been traded to us if it was not for the fact he specifically asked Melbourne to do so.

How I would love Fosdike and Saddington to come out better than ever next year to shove it up other clubs that possibly didn't think much of them as it has been suggested.

The two above and Nick Davis are practically "new recruits" based on the number of games they played this year.

Oh yeh add Schneider and a Goodes that can actually move sideways and who knows?

Hence the stupidity of raising supporters' hopes with the "trade aggressively" comments.

When you finish where we did you are largely at the mercy of other clubs who have more power with higher picks... especially when trading for the same player... unless you are prepared to give up quality (e.g. #5) which we clearly weren't.

If we pick up a good midfielder in the PSD I will be satisfied and somewhat optimistic, but we will have to pay top dollar.

Firstly, I think we traded fairly aggressively.

                        We got what we needed.

maybe not all of what we needed, but a part of it.

It is a good endictment on our list that we didn't trade 1 player.

Sure, we will have to delist at least 3, but they were obviously not tradeable.

Secondly, we have the end of season draft to look forward to, and for those pissed that we didn't pick up some established player in the end of season draft I have 3 words...

                        pre season draft

and if that is hyphenated, it becomes 2 words

                        pre-season draft
