Do we know if LRT has EVER played a key defensive position?

If he's supposed to be a CHB, fine, but I'd prefer him to learn the position in the reserves than in the seniors. The position is too important to let a young bloke get thrashed week-in, week-out while he learns the ropes.

He had a pretty good 2003, and an ordinary 2004. Maybe second year blues?

Playing in the backline would be good for him if he has trouble following the game. Let the CHF lead him to the ball.

Was injured a lot of the season with finger and i think quad or hamstring issues? But, now over these hopefully, he can get a good pre-season behind him in learning about the game and his future position. He has the athletic ability, just not the mindset and skills to match atm.

He played against Petrie at Canberra iirc.

In his first season with us he played some matches there and at FB for Port Melbourne in the VFL. He was drafted by the Swans to either be a CHB or CHF (whatever position we needed filling). I recall us debating whether we should of given him a game in 2002 to blood him after watching him play at Port. I said it was worth a try, you said you didn't want to risk him getting injuried.

he's been on the list for 3 seasons now and by the end of pre-season should have matured physically sufficiently to hold down CHB.

it's unfortunate that injuries have held back his development as it means that he has not had the chance to fully develop the footy smarts required at senior level (i.e. positioning, decision making)

having said that though, CHB is a much easier position to play than anywhere in the forward line and as barry stated there is no reason why he could not play that role.

initially he could play as a stopper in the mould of prestigiacomo following the chf to the ball and negating any influence that they have. as he would not be postioned deep in the forward line any mistakes made would not be as costly.

as he develops more confidence and knowledge he can then start to play off his man and play some attacking football

lets just hope he manages to stay injury free in 2005
