This is my 22 for Round 1 (assuming all fit and firing)

Back: Crouch Schauble Bevan

HBack: C. Bolton LRT Barry

Cen: Goodes Williams Kennelly

HFor: Davis Hall O'Keefe

For: O'Loughlin Saddington Schneider

Ruck: Ball Kirk Buchanan

Bench: Doyle, J. Bolton, Mathews, Maxfield

I've left out Jolly (for Doyle/Ball in the ruck and Saddington in the Forward Line)

I've chosen Saddington ahead of Nicks in the forward line because he is a genuine tall.

I've chosen LRT ahead of James as CHB for a similar reason...call me a traditionalist. It's possible that M. Davis could be eyeing that spot too, I mean if Rivers can do it.... Here's hoping, anyway.

Kirk, Williams and Buchanan are head and shoulders the best three midfielders at the moment and, IMO, MUST play on the ball. When it cames to extraction AND delivery they are far and away ahead of Mathews, J. Bolton, McVeigh, Maxfield, Ablett and Fosdike.

So, that being the case, the rest of the team builds from there.

Goodes and Kennelly should be played in the centre for pace and creativity. Tiger can defend his patch too, of course after 3 years in the back-line!

The thing that may look odd is that I have Bevan starting while J. Bolton, Mathews and Maxfield are on the bench. Well, that's the way I rate them, quite frankly. With Tiger and Goodesy in the midfield, along with Willo and Monty, then I say leave Bevan down back to do his job, and I would rather see him doing it than Mathews.

I would rather see Monty, Captain and Tiger with the ball in hand than Maxi, Benny or Jude so there you have it. Those three start on the bench.

Their experience still sees them ahead of young McVeigh and Ablett for the 22.

The list of those on the fringes is pretty long, though

In order......McVeigh, Fixter, Nicks, Ablett, Jolly, James and Fosdike. Pretty handy names not to be getting a game.

Then there's Sunny, Powell and Thewlis who have had a taste,

Then Dempster and Malceski, who are at emergency level,

And finally the "kids" in M. Davis, Willoughby, Schmidt and Erikson.

Looking at that list you would have to think that whichever two are delisted on Friday they would be pretty good money to be redrafted.

Pretty hard to punt on pick 32 or whatever it is when ALL of those above have at least been rated at some point.

Then again we could pick up a Simon Black for a Mark Powell!

Ball will only ever play full back when the opposition has a ruckman that can be a damaging forward, such as Everitt.

Other than that, Ball will never ever play full back. He will alternate between rucking, full forward and the bench.

Official site says Davis 191 (78 kg), James 191 (90 kg) and Powell 190 (88 kg), although RWO says Davis 190 (78 kg) and James 189 (87 kg) Powell 193 (83 kg)

I guess some days they remember to stand up straight, or, hopefully, young Davis and Powell are still growing.

I don't see Davis as a KPP. He is more in the Kennelly mould, I suspect.

M Davis is still very young . . . . I'd be amazed if he gets a senior game in 2005.

And I don't reckon we'll see his real potential for at least another two or three seasons.

Well, now you're being silly.

I thought it worth noting that nearly all of the AFLs premier CHB (or mobile big men) are 191 and mid 90s.

Just makes me think that our three are at least on the right track as far as size goes for the position. I've always kind of assumed that they were too small (esp James height wise).

James is noway near 190cm. He is about 188cm. He does seem taller with his marking ability. Being a bit undersize, he does require a good leap to play. This might be something missing in his arsenals given the numerous injuries he got.

I suggest Bevan will be moved into the midfield. Was tried a couple of times for periods during games eg. Carlton Optus Oval with some success. Played some good one on one games in defence but would rather see his gung ho style used on the ball.

i disagree, when talking to him, ive always been surprised at how tall he is. around the 191 mark as the current swans site suggests.
