Spriggs just adds to our midfield depth, he doesn't improve our midfield on paper. He could be a handy pick up no doubt, as he can be seen as a long term replacement for Maxfield on a wing (something that has been overlooked). But he isn't going to be the difference between the Swans winning the preimership or not.

We wanted a match winner for our midfield, we didn't get one and people shouldn't think/believe that Spriggs in time could become that player. He'll add to the midfield in time if he gets his confidence back and improves his foot skills. The need for a match winner STILL remains and that appears to be the clubs biggest barrer between us and glory.

2005 could become a very important year if LRT becomes the CHB many hope he'll become because that will mean another first team hole will have been filled and all that would be left is the midfield match winner and long term depth in the key positions (which this draft just didn't forfill)
      Once was, now elsewhere

i don't think a match winning midfielder was available to us in the draft or trading period.

I don't know too much about spriggs beyond what has been posted on this board, sounds like he will never be a lone hand gamebreaker, but sometimes players flourish in a new environment. we've got him now so let's get positive!
(just my positive frame of mind today, could all go pearshaped tomorrow.)

I'm gonna wait and see whether Spriggs' disposal is really as bad as has been claimed.

But, if the media reports can be believed, Spriggs' speed is phenomenal and must surely be something that can be exploited, especially on the bigger grounds.

Stick Spriggs on one wing and Kennelly on the other . . . . tell them to just grab the ball and run . . . .

          That would be entertaining.

"Fosdike once again set the pace in the endurance running trials during pre-season training ? until last Friday.

New recruit David Spriggs - drafted to Sydney with the Swans' second pick in the National AFL Draft - ended his reign and Fosdike couldn't be happier to have the rover at the club.

"We drafted David Spriggs up from Geelong and he is obviously a good runner and pretty fit and that is good for me as it gives me someone to chase," Fosdike said."

Like he needs more practice chasing.

Bewdy - we have guys who can run, but can't kick or handball. So are we recruiting people to play football or compete in track at the Commonwealth Games...

The important question is whether Spriggs can win the sprint on Grand Final day.

                    Then let's recruit Patrick Johnson.

(Though Matt Shirvington would give the ladies something to really drool over. )

Maybe they should change the rules so if you run through the goals with the ball it is counted as either a goal or behind.........touchdown!!!!!!

Ideally, we shouldn't even have a runner in the sprint on Grand Final Day.

Spriggs may well turn out to be a good pickup - although the next couple of years are probably make or break for him after getting over the knee problems.

                              Geelong rejects

If he's half as good as the last Geelong reject on our list I think everyone will be satisfied
