The win over Brisbane at the SCG was great, but the last quarter was one of the most pathetic, boring and embarrassing quarters I have ever witnessed!!
Not for myseld Benny-W and Ando. We used the time to sing ourselves to a standstand. The "Stand up if you love the Swans" song was started during that last quarter, much to the dislike of the cocky Melbourne-based Brisbane Cheer Squad.

When games get boring, I like to make my own fun where I can.

The highlight of the year for me was my first trip to Perth. Everything was new and interesting. And I got to meet the WA Swans Supporters Club as well. The 2nd trip was way too long; finding things to do for 5 days in Perth kind of dries up after 2 days.

Best game of the year-St Kilda & SCG from Essendon @ Telstra and Pies @ Telstra. North in Canberra was fun, but the bus trip was long and boring, unlike last year. Driving to Adelaide for the Port game was classic fun as well. Even though we lost we were having a great time laughing and entertaining the locals with our songs. We even received the odd 'express-delivered chicken wing" in return in the West Lakes mall carpark.

Worst, North game at SCG. I broke down at the end of the match. And was only worse when I realised what had happened.I just remember that after-match, with the raucous North supporters next door. I recall walking down Forveau St fighting off tears with all these wanker Wallaby supporters asking the score and not getting a reply. Then coming home to the abuse the players copped here. A really sickening night.

The St Kilda final was mega mega depressing. I was in a foul mood the next day. Angry, bewildered, down, frustrated, LET DOWN (again!). Then seeing that the interest of everybody in Sydney drift to ANYTHING but AFL is pretty depressing.

The players (with only a few exceptions) deserved the abuse they copped here after the loss to the Kangaroos.

Yep lack of heart and compassion all round. If you can't put something like that behind you, re-focus and win a game then why bother turning up?

St Kilda and Brisbane the best that come to my mind, especially giving it to Voss after he took a dive and drew the free kick. Geez it was sweet watching him get pulled off the ground - booed the whole way.

There was nothing to put behind them when they lost the game (first half of the last qtr).

To an extent, however there was still time for them to pull it back, there was time right untill we got pinged for the deliberate boundary. I do take your point however, it was a case of watching and thinking that this is just unbeliavable. There were no excuses for the first 15mins. It was a shocker.

However, it was always going to be hard to keep playing and not be affected with what happened - especially to try and come back.

The only issue I have is that it has been pretty well established since the game that only a few of the players knew anything about what was happening. Perhaps 3-4 at the most. Ball would have been one of those, so his mistake was understandable. However, for most of the team it isn't really.

IIRC we were still in front till the last minute so the game was not "lost in the first 15 minutes". There was still time to staunch the flow or even regain control (and we did almost hang on).

There were more than 3-4 players thru the IC in the last 15 minutes but even it was only 3-4 it was significant WHO those players were. Most of those changes were "engine room" types (midfield and ruck) who need to take breaks - the very players who provide the drive that wins games. It only needs the tiniest drop in intensity for a game to swing.

There would also have been a number of players on the field who would have been aware that "something" was happening on the bench though not "what". Probably not enough to distract them but who really knows. The players will never admit it, never try to divert the blame.

Given the circumstances I, personally, will NOT condemn the players for that loss, bitterly disappointed as I was at the time.
I was very happy to be present at the emotional game the following week.

                                I'm with you JS.

Furthermore, regardless of whether they knew or not, and whether the loss was in any way attributable to the events on the sideline, the fact that they lost a game of football was irrelevant in the context of what else they lost that night and I can't fathom why anyone really still cares that the game was lost.

A few years ago the team had a habit of letting large leads disappear. They seem to have got out of that habit, and the breakdown in the final quarter of that game was, even in pure football terms, an aberration.

Would we have won the premiership if we'd won that game? Hardly. On its own it didn't affect where we finished. So why continue to dwell on it, given that it wasn't part of a larger pattern?
