We are still probably reliant on fewer genuine gamebreakers than most of the other contenders.

Few clubs would cope well with losing their main spearhead, so it goes without saying that we need Hall to fire.

But through the midfield we really need both Williams and Goodes to play consistently near their best if we are to really contend. Or we need another couple of true midfield matchwinners to emerge, and the only two I can see it coming from next season (in terms of having the skill, experience and maturity to deliver for the whole season) are Davis and Kennelly.

      GF berth

I like the way Roos has addressed our weaknesses, albeit in a non-spectacular manner.

In that way, I feel we are a better side on paper than 2004. Certainly not as exposed in some areas as before.

We have to win a flag within the next two years IMO, so a grand final berth is the minimum for this year.

agreed with the rest of your comment, but i think the window is open for us for the next four or five years. we won't dominate the competition as brisbane and port have recently, but we'll be one of the top competative teams over that time. there is no real reason why we can't win one this year or next though.

what should the swans goal be for 2005? round one win against the lions. anything other than that is foolishness.

i predict the swans to go top four this year and win at least one final.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

If you're going to the Gabba in Round 1 to watch the Swans, you'll be nice and early. We don't play there 'till Round 3 next year; the rest of us will be at the SCG in Rd 1 to see the Swans beat Hawthorn.

            .
            Hawks you mean

However I disagree, I think it should be the initial focus, but the goal has to be more.

The goal has to be the win the premiership, and the Hawks is the first step. One week at a time stuff is fine and required, but no point unless you are working towards an achievable goal.

I will be 'disappointed' in less than top 4 - in 2002 it was the "3 year plan" and a lot of confidence from fans in getting a premiership in 2005, so if I don't see us with a premiership or reasonably close to it I will be 'disappointed'. (A lot of factors can go into an unsuccessful season though)

However, if any fan drops off because of it they can get stuffed. The club has been through a lot worse than not making finals etc
You got that last bit right Damien 1992 I remember it well the club was given one week to come up with something special or we were gone, thanks to some wonderful work behind the scenes by Peter Weinert and money hungry Carlton saying they would take our place in Sydney we were saved, I still remember the look on the bank tellers face when I withdrew $200 from my account to send to a club which was about to fold she thought I was crazy she may have been right but I felt I had to do something life without the Swans was too much to bear.
              cheers Ian

Acceptable - Anything. I certainly wont be cutting up my members card regardless (I still chuckle at the velcro-ed Richmond members card they had on TFS, where you could "tear it up" and reattach ready to tear it up next week ), because just going to the footy means too much to me.

                Certainty - a top 8 finish.

Expected - a top 4, even if fourth.

Hoped for - a GF appearance, even if only to lose and teach our youngsters what its all really about. We have the class and calibre, but lack the consistency.
