If you hit the site, it generates $$ for the club, which they are looking into rediverting back into the site itself. All it takes is making it your homepage, and once it has loaded it shouldn't take so long after that (it hasn't for me anyway), and once it's loaded you can redirect to RWO for your swans news. Not so hard is it?

No it is not hard but for the amount of stuff that loads on the site really affects our petty download limit. I often go to the website to check out the news.

I got sick of SS.com.au so I went to google and searched Sydney Swans Sites and RWO came up. Nine MSN boards came up too but that is a more average version of a Forum compared to this.
Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

As Gemma said, the point is nothing about content, just that it's a way to help generate revenue for OUR club. For a few seconds each time you start your browser, what harm does it do? More revenue to the Club gets turned into better service to us (whether spent on players, facilities, member functions, member facilities, website content, et al).

You all appear to want better services. Do something to help.

Surely better service would prompt more money. This seems a bit arse-about!

Bron, the problem is that doing so rewards a mediocre service. There are ways of improving the site - improve it, and I'll be there more often. As it is, it's all fluff pieces with some player saying "yeah nah, Roosy is a great coach and I'm really looking forward to a big 2005."

They need to be innovative, BEFORE they are rewarded.

True, but it goes against the grain to reward mediocrity (hmmm... damn I seem to be running out of words and repeating myself - must need an upgrade!).

Surely it wouldn't be so hard to put something interesting on there to read.

If their hits go up heaps then we'll never get to read anything interesting as they will think it is already okay.

I would like to suggest that the Swans web site have a link to non official fan sites like RWO, to develope good will.
This debate is clarifying what is wrong with the Swans as an organisation for me.
If they gave back a little more, they would be much stronger, cos we would ALL feel our support had not been taken for granted.
It about being savvy and making your supporters feel like they belong to something really special, no matter what time of year it is, or how the team is doing on the field.

By the way this feeling of welcome and belonging that you ought to engender for you own livlihood should extend from the cyber world to the real world, so that when fans drop in at Driver Av, they are made to feel welcome. Instead of like some stalker.
It's the liitle things which will add up to finaly make this club a power house, as it will be the liitle things which will add up to not really being a powerhouse!!!

Just a question to people who want the site to improve before gracing it with their presence:

How are they meant to be able to afford things like better journalism without improved revenue? You want independent journalism, that requires the swans to pay for an independent journalist. That requires more money than simply letting someone inhouse to do the articles. Which in turn requires more funding, which can be achieved by receiving more hits on the site, which can be done by some people swallowing their pride.

And if you really cant swallow your pride, then write the swans an email to state that the only reason you are accessing their site at the moment is to assist in increasing revenue, but you will only continue to do so if you see an improvement in the site. If after a period of time (because it will not happen immediately), you can see no tangible improvement, contact the swans again to say you will no longer go to SS.com.au.

Do something proactive instead of just whingeing.

This is a good post FH. It does capture the feelings of many of us.

But I have had personal dealings with both Myles as well as others within the club echelons. He basically came out and agreed with a lot of what has been said in this thread.

Watch this space; things ARE going to change hugely, both with the website as well as the club in general. I'll wait for the club to officially announce things. As at the moment I know way too much for my own good. So I'll irritate you all by staying completely silent.

If you aren't happy with something about the way the club is going, try and sniff Myles Baron-Hay out and tell him so! He has replied to every email I have sent him. And with a respect that I NEVER seen in all the years I have followed this club.

There are few people on RWO who get madder about things that have happened at the office. But things ARE changing BIG TIME.

IN MYLES WE TRUST! (well at least I do)
