I'm simply not going to do something so that the club can get money for nothing, when they are capable of earning it. I'm quite confident that they'll improve the site, but just like Tony Morwood working to increase the Melbourne games, my recognition of that will wait until after it happens.
Give me something worth going to the site for more often, and I'll do it. Asking for a free lunch in the name of profit just doesn't impress me enough.

I visit it daily, and it has always been my homepage, but it is the worst club site in the AFL.
They say they are going to improve it, better late than never and I hope it ends up fantastic and we get billions in funding from Telstra, but the people in this thread who have the hide to have a go at the fans who decide not to go the site because it simply offers nothing are well out of order.
The Swans have been aware of the funding deal for 3 years, and Myles has been in charge for nearly 18 months of that time, why the hell wouldn't you improve it earlier than now?.
Once they put real and exciting improvements in, the people will come, until then, the Swans management will have to deal with coming 9th in funding, they should also be thanking their lucky stars we didn't come 16th.Comment

This debate is really showing us what a poor job the Swans have done in the running of the club in very many areas.
As I said before it is the little things that count.Comment

Just a question to people who want the site to improve before gracing it with their presence:
How are they meant to be able to afford things like better journalism without improved revenue? You want independent journalism, that requires the swans to pay for an independent journalist. That requires more money than simply letting someone inhouse to do the articles. Which in turn requires more funding, which can be achieved by receiving more hits on the site, which can be done by some people swallowing their pride.
And if you really cant swallow your pride, then write the swans an email to state that the only reason you are accessing their site at the moment is to assist in increasing revenue, but you will only continue to do so if you see an improvement in the site. If after a period of time (because it will not happen immediately), you can see no tangible improvement, contact the swans again to say you will no longer go to SS.com.au.
Do something proactive instead of just whingeing.
I realised that the SS site wasn't that great and went looking for another outlet an found this one.
I haven't read all of the posts here tonight so forgive me if I'm going over old ground and rearguing another's points.
No the site isn't that good, but if more people access the site, the more dollars the club gets from it and hopefully the more dollars they put into providing a better site and service to it.
I've heard the club IS interested into perhaps having a link to RWO (details are yet to be confirmed) as they find a broad range of fans with an even broader range of opinions frequent here.
For all of you disputing whether setting the SS.com.au site as your home page is supporting a site that's not yet worthy.... give it a go. If things don't improve once the season starts change it back to whatever it is you have now.
If we acted the same way about the success of the club as we do about their site, how many of you would still be supporting the club after so many years?
I ask, is it not worth trying to be proactive and get it up and running?
If they fail to provide a decent service then your harsh words now will have been justified. If it works we all win!
Just my opinion and perhaps another way we can actively support the club and fans of the Swans. Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
We need

They also can be applied backwards. By that I mean, one could argue that the lack of the success of this club for so long could indeed be put down to (or at least effected somewhat by ), the fact that they have deemed it not important enough to provide certain things for their supporters, that other (more successful) clubs have been providing for a long time.
Supporters feel wanted when those little things are done for them, when the club is thinking from the fans Point of view, than a dialogue develops and people feel like they belong which engenders more passion. that passion gets turn directly into more dollars which the club can reinvest into it's self thereby becoming more successful thereby engendering more passion.
The opposite is true at the Swans. In general Swans supporters are one eyed, pretty loyal, rather ignorant and very very quite and fairly uncritical of the club.
But think about how much under servicing has been going on ! ****e food at the SCG, astronomical prices for food at games, high membership prices, lack of friendliness by reception staff at the Swans office in driver AV. Lack of information provided by club on things like training venues and times, lack of encouragement by the club of member involvement (we are about to get a partial vote - maybe! after all these years!) and of course the abysmal running of the web site ! I could go on and on. But the Swans management needs to read and re-read this whole thread and see what a nerve they have set off in us. They are not getting the best out of their fans.
It becomes a vicious cycle, one that only the club can fix, because new converts can smell it a mile off to (though they may not be able to articulate it!).
No it is not the fans fault, in fact I bet a lot here have already switched to swans.com.au as there h.page (because we do support them so much). The problem lies in the traditional culture of the Swans where they think they can get away with taking there members for granted.
Guess what- Essendon don't do it! Neither do Collingwood or Carlton or Port A, or Brisbane !!!
The Swans need a clean out ! Too many people on pot in that office. Too many old ladies living vicariously through the incidental sexual proximity of young men. It's a powerful combination and they have gone to sleep on us !!!
Come on Myles come on Andrew, come on anybody at the Swans with the balls to shake em up a bit I dare you, It will build a better club.
If the Swans were a public company we would not be talking about this crap, it would have been fixed years ago.Last edited by footyhead; 17 December 2004, 03:27 AM.Comment

Trust me. You will see this a LOT more from these SAME people from now on.
Admit it, you are inferring we are after something, aren't you?
Personally I'm not. And will introduce you to Myles at the Irish Club next year in person if you wish.

Is the only way you will say the club is successful when they win a premiership. We all know the team has not not won a premiership since 1933, and i am sure we all dream for this to occurr much sooner rather than later, but dont you think the club know that too and are doing everything they can to get there.
An unsuccessful club could not have survived for 22 years in Sydney, i think you have to give credit when credit is due.

So we therefore don't know if the marginal revenue of increasing up the 'ladder position' is significant enough to allow a major improvement in the website by itself.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
