    Best Away Games

I have never seen an away game (yeah, I know, your more hardcore) but next year is the year. Me and my mate want to see North at Manuka, but I would like to get your opinions on what the best atmospheres and experiences are for other games. For Melbourne games - anywhere else is too far to drive (again, see above for the hardcore thing).

R10 St Kilda at the Dome
    R14 Richmond at the MCG
    R19 Essendon at the Dome

Basically we want to toughen up a bit, I feel it is very easy to become a little too comfortable supporting a side at home all the time. I know that Richmond supporters are pretty full on so that is looking tempting, and St Kilda would be good because of the whole thing last year.

    Any opinions would be appreciated.

I'm from Melbourne and I went interstate 4 or 5 times. I think Round. 13 will be good against Collingwood. Round. 12 Freo & Round. 20 heritage round Brisbane will be interesting.

All these would be worth going to.

If you haven't been to the MCG before then definitely choose that one first.

The TD is a fantastic place to football though.

TD has a great atmosphere at night. Some of the MCG facilities are below average!

All the below average MCG facilities should be gone now considering that the oldest part of the ground is now from 1992.

The last time I was at the G was St. Kilda final and the toilets were so disgusting. There's a good half and a bad half I reckon.

Take the Richmond option, a game at the MCG can't be beat and the likelyhood is Richmond will be nearer to our level form wise at the time, making for a good match. Add the fact its easy to bate Richo from the stands, means you'll get a good match.

Where were you sitting? Remember that since the end of the footy season, the remainder of the Olympic Stand has been demolished. The New Ponsford Stand has been open all this year, the new Members was open during the cricket, leaving the Great Southern Stand as the oldest part of the ground.

I was sitting in the CS area. It's the toilets AND the area near the Cheer Squad that isn't so flash. Maybe it's not maintained well enough? What do you think?

The CS sometimes sat in the Olympic Stand, sometimes in the Southern Stand. I can understand comments about the facilities in the Olympic Stand seeing they were 50 years old, but not the GSS.

Oh umm okay, I was sitting where all the new reconstruction was going on at the right of me. Which stand was that?

Richmond supporters are hardly anything to be scared on these days CM. At the last round match we got 27000 at the MCG.

Of that I'd have said that at least 14000 were in red and white. Our area was nearly 90% Swans. Even Des & Mike felt ok enough to leave the red and white throng in the Cheer Squad and sing upstairs so they could analyse the match.

The St Kilda match will be a big-time intense game of footy. Saints matches at night are the real deal. With the roof closed the crowd makes an absolute racket in close matches. So much so that the stadium starts to rattle.

The Essendon game will be a good one too. Both Essendon and St Kilda supporters are just awful. Even if at the Dome you do tend to get a much more upmarket audience than you ever did at Moorabbin or Windy Hill.

Saints fans are more often than not uneducated bogans. The Undertaker's mate actually was smashing the seat so hard when we beat them earlier this year than it started bleeding. Essendon are not only bogans but are as arrogant and smug as all all. Still imagine if you follow a club that hasn't been out of the finals for so long and you'll get the picture, I guess.

In any case, just hang out with us at the Colonial Hotel on Latrobe & King St. And try and grab a seat in the Melbourne Swans Cheer Squad area. And all will be sweet. You will be among friends. And nothing will happen to you.

Then it is of for pizza in Carlton after the game in all your regalia, a quinticentially Melbourne experience.

As a Swans fan you are definitely NOT in enemy territory when you come to Victoria. If you wear your footy colours, you will more than likely get somebody coming up to you wanting to talk to you about the game etc etc.

Enjoy Melbourne. Swans trips down there are highly addictive!

Those seats have since been demolished.
Since the footy season finished, the new members area has been opened up and the northern stand has gone - it's now a hole that looks like this:
                            http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...d/PC270085.jpg

The new members stand blends in with the new western stand, although the roof on top of the stand hasn't been finished yet, and looks like this:
                            http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...d/PC270086.jpg

In about a year's time, the ground will look like the southern stand all the way round.

Is it best to book tickets through the club, can you asked to be seated around other members?
