In about a year's time, the ground will look like the southern stand all the way round.

What about the inside facilities? If they're going to build new stands and seats (well, which they have to for obvious reasons) they should demolish the toilet blocks and food areas and make it look neat!

That reconstruction was where the members area used to be, and you were in the old Olympic stand.

I also sat in that area in Round 22 against the Tigers, it was really funny when Richo missed a sitter from the end of the goal square!

I am looking forward to going to the Telstra Dome for a couple of games.Essendon in Round 19 sounds good.I have been to the Dome once and that was for the wrestling a couple of years ago.
Very impressed with the stadium so i do look forward to returning.
Also i want to get down to Manuka(spelling?)Oval this year.

They've all been demolished and are being rebuilt. The area where the cheer squad was for those games is where the construction site is now.

I'll make a couple of Victorian trips, but not sure when yet - because of the local footy there's not too many opportunities. But I'll definately be going to Canberra in round 2.

That is well good to hear. The reconstruction will just enhance everything!

You can pre-book General Admission tickets at any of Sydney's Ticketmaster outlets. This sort of thing is very advisable when playing Carlton for example (even if they are the only one who used Ticketek). Essendon will no doubtedly be a sell out, so it would be best to book for this one as well. Otherwise just rock up before 6pm, go to Gate 6 around the left of screen goals end and you'll get in no worries. They generally do keep a few tickets to people who can prove that they have travelled from Sydney if you can show some form of Sydney-based ID. I got into Carlton once because I showed the guy on the gate a Sydney Buses Travelten.

The Dons have a sweetheart deal wth the Dome. It is profitable for them to stay under the roof.

It will be a sell-out, no ifs or buts. Probably all-ticket too.

It's an Essendon home game, and Docklands is Essendon's home ground. The Essendon v Sydney game at the MCG last year only got 36,000, which would easily fit at Docklands.
And JF, it will be all-reserved seating. All Essendon home games at Docklands are.

But it was raining that day. And as you know, Bomber fans don't take kindly to getting their tushes wet for the footy these days. The rain would get in their foul-mouthed open gobs too.

Last year's crowd was exceptionally low . . . in my experience, Bombers v Swans games at the MCG ought to attract 50-60,000 fans on a normal day, and considerably more than that for a late season game with the finals up for grabs.

Still, it will be interesting to see how Bombers' fans react if they miss out on tickets at TD . . . they can be just as feral as Magpies' fans!

Over the last 8 years I've been to Melbourne to see Sydney play most teams and I havent ever felt threatened by any of the opposition supporters, even when way outnumbered by them (although I do seek to sit amongst a pocket of red and white). This includes Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon, Carlton, Melbourne, North (before Manuka) and St Kilda (that bloody final). I dont recall going to a Hawthorn or Western Bull****s game in Melbourne (the latter due to them now playing all games here).

The best game to see will be largely dependent upon ladder position at the time. Most Melbourne teams will attract a good crowd if they are playing well, especially Essendon, Richmond, Collingwood and St Kilda. Skip Carlton at Optus as it's a ****hole of a ground, especially in early June. Melbourne supporters are dull. I love both Telstra Dome and the MCG.

Back to my fishing. Actually no, sigh, I'm back at work.

don't know about bullies supporters, most hawthorn supporters i encountered at the MCG were teenage girls. ( well it seemed like that)

also, hasn't Optus Oval been canned as an AFL venue?
