Paul Roos was talking about when he initially came back from the off season.
the work schneider has been doing has been in the preseason so that comment is now a little outdated.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

Outdated or not it showed he had problems in that area in the past and now is at least acknowledging that he had to improve his committment to training and has taken steps to do so and appears do be better off for it.

Still 2 months of improved training doesn't mean he is all of a sudden worthy of a spot in the team in front of others who have been trying harder for longer. His form last season means he has to earn his spot in the best 22 again, he isn't a walk up starter because of his 03 form anymore.

That means he has to produce on the field in the pre season matches to prove himself ready to play, because as his form when coming back from injury showed at the end of last season, he had little impact, because he a) was out of form and b) lacking overall fitness. His talent didn't help him or the team then.

However with his improved work on his fitness level (which must no matter what be praised) during the Christmas brake from training, hopefully he has put himself in a position to not only be able to produce his 03 form, but better it and hopefully gain himself a spot in the Best 22 for Round 1 because as you have pointed out he brings to the team a great upside.

But until he produces that form, he will be finding it hard to gain a spot in the team for Round 1. But at least the signs are looking good.
      Once was, now elsewhere

And I have no doubt he will! Having said that I agree with your comments - very unbiased! First one yet!
But I agree that fitness and talent have to come together to make a great athlete/footballer.

Some suggestions that talent isnt everything and that fitness is is crap! Its 50/50 cause you have three senarios:

        1) All Talent No Fitness - ala Nick Davis
        2) All Fitness No Talent - (maybe I should say B1 considering he doesnt seem to have the best ball skills etc etc - maybe i will get my head bitten off but alas!)
        3) Fitness and Talent = good football player! [insert good players name here]

senarios 1 and 2 arent what a team needs, rather you need players in the 3rd category! fitness isnt everything but neither is talent - you need both. so....keep working hard schneids!
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

All these points are well and good however I think that if we continue with similar stategies we will fall behind. If O'Keefe and Hall continue up the ground as link men, then the setup we use should be able to work on the bigger grounds. Hall shouldn't be having to kick as many goals, so that he can be free to roam the ground, using rest periods at FF if required/tactically required.

Schneider's speed, however, is something that we will need to harness in order to blow sides away. Even Crouch should be freed up from time to time to be more offensive with his pace.

Hard workers and endurance athletes we have in abundance. It is clear that we have used a hard running rebound stategy to catch sides out. But when required we have not been able to get the clearances out of the middle that we should. Hence Goodes also should spend more time at RR.

          Offensive Centre line:
          Ruck: Goodes
          Centre: Williams
          RR: Kirk
          Rover: Schneider

          Defensive Centre line:
          Ruck: Doyle
          Centre: Bolton
          RR: Kirk
          Rover: Crouch

(obviously other options are available in the middle, but tactics need to be less defensive most the time!)

doubt you will ever see goodes in the ruck ever again

My thoughts using your theory above - I would have Buchanan and Fosdike ahead of Schneider for a rover role but I would have Schneider and Davis rotating with these guys in short spells - midfield but the majority of the time I would have Schneider and Davis interchanging off the bench across HF...but all would depend on team balance etc.

I would like to see Kennelly in a midfield role but 1 more year across HB would be good for him and us.

              Cheers

With a change in the ruck rules coming into effect, his ruck career is not over! I still believe as a roaming ruckman he is his most damaging.
