IMO you can't put all of these players in the same frame. Bar the 'I' word (and I'm touching wood as type this) O'Keefe, B2 and Kennelly would be ceratin starts. Monty and Schneids are fighting for the same role and a fit Nick Davis should never be left out of a team. Perhaps as this thread was intended, not a midfield role, but as a forward he should always be there.

somone who can marshelle the troops with some brilliance, take the glory when we win and accept responability when we loose. In short a leader with true star status. At the moment no one has quite done that for us yet.
O'keefe looks like the right build, how is he on the speed and endurance levels ?

I believe that years of consistent work is far more valuable to the team than wishing to find another Judd. Kelly was not a Judd, and his value came from persistence. A very valuable lesson for the youngsters in the team.

that is a very potent point Schneiderman! I couldnt agree with you more.
you dont have to have natural talent (although it helps) and you dont have to be the most skillful of players - but as long as you are prepared to work hard and play consistent, determined and hard football you are more valuable to the team.
those with talent and skill that dont display these traits i.e NICK DAVIS are sometimes a hinderance to the team.

FWIW I hope that Davis does not go into the midfield. I would rather see him kicking 2 or 3 or more from somewhere in the fwd line. Jarrod Moore will be our next superstar in the mid field.

(I'm sure Kirk is thrilled to read that he has no natural talent too)

If you are looking for a dominant mid fielder in the mould of a voss/black/buckley I really do not see one at the moment. A dominant player who is a real general for the side we are still missing. In fact the last one was probably Greg Williams IMHO. The players mentioned while OK are not in that league sorry to say. It will need to be a real team effort with all the guys playing at their best if we are to have any real impact.

I am confident that Nick could kick 2 goals per game from the midfield and help produce a hell of a lot more by giving quality delivery to whoever is in the forward line. Whilst typing that I had "say deep penetration" going over and over in my mind, so there I did. And clearly I have a problem.

The problem is that the sides who win premeirships these days tend to need at least one general, and the entire team playing very well together.
I fear that if we only play well as a team, then we will not have that little extra that gets you premeirship glory. Which is everything to me.
Therefore I repeat: we need a midfield superstar to emerge this year.

Port didn't have a midfield superstar last year. Having Buckley in the side didn't help Collingwood in two losing Grand Final's.

Yes a midfield general is more than helpful, but having one doesn't mean premiership success. Having Kelly didn't help us now did it????

I think we have to look at Port for inspiration rather than hoping for a midfield superstar to emerge.Not that I have anything against superstar midfielders.
