Selection dilemma??

There really does appear to be a dilemma for the team selection for this game.

It seems from what I can gather that the available players (leaving out a few of the younger rookies) are:

Thats 27 with only 24 spots available.

Roos has already committed to playing Campbell, Vogels, Grundy, Willoughby, Schmidt.

To me you wouldn't consider not playing Jolly or Doyle because they are both screaming for match time at the senior level.

Who do you leave out? It sounds a simple question, but who?

Shaw looks a likely candidate, but what about the other 2? I thought perhaps Potter but he could be useful on the HBF in a team that may be short of them. He is also a second year player and you would hope he would get a go at this stage.

Are the more senior players the option for deletion? Or does that mean that we are giving no priority at all to putting up a decent showing?

Would hate to see Clarke or Moore miss out, dying to see what they look like, as with a couple of the other newbies.

Anyone got any creative thoughts on who to leave out or any information on players that definitely will or won't play?

That's what I said Nico, we go nowhere this year other than treading water if we can't by finals time consider Bevan, McVeigh, Ablett, LRT and Powell to be in our strongest starting 22. Probably go as far as to say even Dempster needs to be included in that list.

If you add Jolly, Spriggs & Saddington to the above that is around 7 player change over from the team fielded against the Saints last year.

It also looks to fill the critical places we were missing in the final last year:

* Midfield puch to go for a full game with a team that has such a large rotation on the ball

* An extra tall defender, utility and ruckman to take on teams with 3 talented tall forwards.

While it was not pretty watching the last 1 and 1/3 qrt's of last years semi final, we would have been much more competitive with a couple of extra midfield rotations and an extra tall defender.

At CHB Goodes will have to be in the mould of a quarterback/rebounding style of player - a la Roos or Cornes. His defensive abilities are not great, so will need to work on that part.

There's no way Kirk will start on the bench.

Spriggs is likely to comfortably make the team early on given we chased him and need help in the midfield.

Bevan should get in the team ahead of Fosdike at this stage.

I suspect Williams and Maxfield will spend a lot of time on the bench, acting as impact players.

The weakest parts of our team are our height in the backline and our midfield.

I think Saddington to half back and Kennelly to the wing helps with both of these aspects.

This then leaves a lot of players to contest for the midfield spots - competition is healthy.

I agree re: Jolly as they traded a 1st round pick for him. Spriggs on the other hand was a 3rd round draft pick - they chose to pick a player they knew a little more about than a 17 y/o nominating for the draft for the first time with a view to bolstering midfield depth.

Sure he lacks silky clean disposals and he does float his kicks alot, but he is our sweeper in the backline and nobody does it better in our team than him. can someone explain why matthews is so highly thought of?
mr consistency, commited workman/linkman who racks up possessions but doesn't use them with much enterprise.lacking skills. I doubt oppositions give him or fosdike(coasting way too long) much thought. do you go to them at the crunch when the pressure is on?

kirk, bolten, crouch, Kennelly(move to the wing hopefully) on the other hand can step up and spark the team

we need playmakers, attacking players with vision who can set the team on fire.our classy foward line deserves much better service. lets see what willoughby moore schmit etc can do if given extended opportunities in the middle
