Yeah, but if you wait, say 22 games, before picking a team until they've really shown their true form, the finals team you pick will be spot on...

Pre season form means nothing according to ScottH.

for the team it probably doesnt
but for individual players competiting for spots its helps IMHO....... say for example they want to pick either jolly or doyle.... a stellar wizard cup could change the selection

                For the wizard.

                FB: Bevan James Dempster
                HB: Campbell LRT Schneider(VC)
                C: McVeigh(C) Buchanan Willoughby
                HF:Schmidt Grundy Ablett
                FF: Fosdike(VC) Vogels Fixter
                Ruck: Jolly Spriggs Powell
Inter: Erikson/Shaw (Depending on how is more ready phsyicallly for AFL) Moore Hayes Clarke Sunqvist Malkeski

As I said somewhere else here, I'd like Schneids on a back flank to see how he goes.

Buchanen to get the ball out of the packs.

                For the seniors;
                Mathews Schuable Crouch

                C Bolton James Barry

                Goodes J Bolton Williams

                O'Keefe Hall N Davis

                O'Loughlin Doyle Saddington

                Ball Maxfield Kirk

                Jolly Bevan Kennelly Schneider

                Emergency Fosdike McVeigh Lewis Roberts-Thomson

                Nicks, Buchanen, Fixter.

For the Wiz Cup I don't want the slaughter of last year, so I would include more old boys than BRB. Starting with the list of players that played every game in 2004: Bevan, C Bolton, J Bolton, Crouch, Goodes, Hall, Kirk, Mathews, Maxfield, O'Keefe (thanks NMWBloods) then removing Crouch, Goodes, Mathews for injury concerns gives a list of robust older gentlemen:

Bevan, C Bolton, J Bolton, Hall, Kirk, Maxfield, O'Keefe

Fill the empty spaces with newbs, young guys, Schneider and LRT.

Sorry to Paul Bevan, (I love the guy but I can't fit him in unless he replaces Nicks who uses the ball better atm).
Luke Ablett, Sean Dempster, Jarrad McVeigh, Nic Fosdyke, and LRT
LRT + Schneids + The Mullett = hope for the future.

Um...if my memory serves me right - I believe Barry Hall played in our wizard cup match against Carlton last year.
I think we should chuck some of the seniors in to play - and rotate them on and off the bench a bit more frequently.

What do people think about that fact that if players arent given playing time they might not quite have the touch for the first round of the comp?
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

Will be interesting to see what comes of the midfield, given the above posts have nominated everyone except Bob Hawke.

                            Two points:

What has happened to the Trade Saddo Push. All of a sudden the site rates him. Strewth NMW even has him back at CHB. He would have to be regarded as a fringe player at this time.

Schneider on a HBF. Boy that is lateral thinking. But just what the side needs, additional height across HB. Perhaps he can pick up Chris Grant in the Wiz Cup. Now that will produce some spectacular marking contests.

Roos said on radio today that even though it was only a scratch match last week, he thought Doyle had the best he had seen and would be inclined to not play him in the ruck at the moment. So if plays up forward where does leave Saddo.

We said it last year that we had the best depth of all time, yet when the chips were down it did not materialise. Hope those players who failed to rise to the occasion against the Saints in the semi, take the next step. Depth means Jack if they don't.

No - HBF. He's simply a useful utility, not much more.
