    Wizard Cup Team

Not sure if it's already been posted somewhere, but our Wizard Cup team is up on afl.com.au

I was pleased to see Shaw and Clarke in there. I didn't think they'd be included.

That is a squad rather than the team - it still needs to be trimmed down to 24 (I think - or else 26). It includes everyone who played last week except for Hayes, with none that missed that game coming in to the squad.

So there are still a few who will miss out.

Best line up I could come up with (includes those Roos has said will play and LRT at CHB and Schneider in the midfield at rover like Roos has hinted). Not a bad squad with mainly the key talls out (Hall, Ball, Goodes and Schauble), so if Roos doesn't try and mix things up too much we could see a win on Saturday.

      B: C. Bolton G.Campbell H.James
      HB: P.Bevan L.Roberts-Thomson T.Kennelly
      C: J.McVeigh J.Bolton (c) D.Spriggs
      HF: R.O'Keefe L.Vogels N.Fosdike
      F: A.Buchanan S.Doyle M.Nicks
      R: D.Jolly B.Kirk A.Schneider
      Int: J.Moore T.Schmidt H.Grundy M.Powell S.Dempster J.Willoughby
      Emg: E.Shaw N.Potter E.Clarke S.Garrubba

Roos has also said that Potter will play. Not sure whether he has added up how many players he has said will play...

I don't think so either because basically who would you drop for Potter considering who Roos said will play?? You would end up droping one of the few senior players.

i like your lineup robbie, using your lineup and my guess at the doggies lineup:

            b: hargrave harris hahn
            hb: smith grant r. murphy
            c: ray west gianciracusa
            hf: johnson rawlings walsh
            f: faulkner bandy bowden
            r: darcy cooney gilbee

LRT - rawlings (throw him in the deep end, put the athleticism to the test; LRT - 196, 93. rawlings - 196, 95. i really want to see this matchup)
            campbell - bandy
            james - bowden
            bolton - johnson
            bevan - faulkner
            kennelly - walsh

jolly - darcy (good test for jolly, good guage)
kirk - west (nice match-up so early on in the season, expect 40 HB and 3 kicks between them )
bolton - cooney (another nice matchup)
spriggs - gianciracusa (battle of the pretty boy)
mcveigh - ray (young guns head-to-head, I LIKE! this will be a matchup to savour)
schneider - gilbee (i cant really remember how gilbee plays, matchup wise, i donw know how this would go, but, im VERY happy to see schneids in the middle)

nicks - hargrave (good test for hargrave, he has the edge size-wise but nicks has superior ability)
            grundy - grant
doyle - harris (this will test doyle's marking ability overhead, harris is good)
okeefe - hahn (pretty even match, style wise, okeefe with the edge ability-wise)
buchanan - murphy (dogs look to go through murphy off half-back, buccy to play a shutdown role as well as an avenue to goal)
fosdike - smith (loosest matchup ever known to man)

            interchanges: meh!

when you look at some of the quality talls the doggies have and the rookies we'll have lined up on them it is worrying. if the ball hits the ground, we have enough around to scoop up and scurry and compete but i fear that the doggies talls will decide the game, unfortunately, in their favour...

Keep in mind Eade has said Rawlings is likely to get a bit of time at CHB this pre season and that Grant will be moving to Full Forward. Still whoever lines up on LRT, he'll have his hands full. So yes this is the perfect chance for him to prove he is the future CHB.

IMO, the main reason rocket ended up failing as a coach with us was that he loaded the forward line with talls and didnt have a good balance. for instance, in his last game against geelong he had plugger, bazza, goodes, schaubs and magic all in the forward line!!! i recently watched the nightmare, now glaringly obvious where it all fell apart...

expect a tall forward line, he tried it against the all-stars as well, our rookie-talls will get a good workout this weekend!

For Nicks this year, I hope he does what it takes to get the commentators back to saying "usually constructive" every time he has the ball.

With that team, we are going to get slaughtered - even against th Bulldogs.

Is it choice not to play most of our best players? Or are they injured?

I agree with our tactics ifor the Wizard cup. It's the best chance the club has to look at the progress of the developing players.

I reckon that our coaching staff will regard the Dogs going in full strength as a bonus: the better the opposition the better the opportunity to assess which of our kids is ready to take the step up. A good game for these kids against higher quality opposition is worth 5 good games in the Canberra comp

I remember going in 1993. Brisbane killed our kids, but there was one youngster in #36 who stood out like a beacon. I just hope another steps up tomorrow.

Well, having posted elsewhere that we SHOULD beat the doggies, I've just seen the team line-ups and feel a big portion of pie of the humble flavour, being served up to me. With that team, I'd suggest that last year's first round 100-point thrashing by Carlton in the WC may well be considered a close game...
No, seriously, with all those youngsters in, they may yet surprise. I hope so! What IS obvious though to me, at least, is that despite what the coaching staff has been quoted as saying, the WC is not taken all that seriously down Driver Ave...
Anyway, for all concerned, including Rodney, I hope it's a good game...I can't wait!!!!
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Have they said anything to suggest they do take it seriously? I haven't read anything that would indicate that.

For some perverse reason (probably years of footy pain), as Carlton approached the 100pt thrashing, I relaxed and started looking forward to it. It was the only interesting part of the game by the end.
