    Players out come Rd 1

Luke Ablett - Knee - Fitness work
Leo Barry - Ankle - Returns next week to training
Jared Crouch - Collarbone - Fitness work
Adam Goodes - Knee - Fitness work
Ben Mathews - Ankle - Returns next week to training
    Michael O?Loughlin - Knee - Fitness work
Andrew Schauble - Foot - Fitness work

It's difficult to read between all the lines, but here is the injury list from ten days ago.

It would seem that "fitness work" means you are further away than "traingin next week." and that presumably if you are traingin next week, whihch means this week, you will be fit enough to play a practice match and get up for round 1

Neither of the Davis' are on the injured list here, nor Malceski, Erikson, Schmidt, Saddington or Sundqvist. I guess they must be in full training.

So we are still a chance to be without

Crouch, Schauble, O'Loughlin, Ablett and Goodes.

Of those Goodesy and Ablett have been making nice noises, O'Loughlin is being "managed" but there is an ominous silence about Crouch and Schauble isn't there?

Good to see roosey saying that the last two practice games he will be honing in on his best team. Of course with as many reserves as you like it will be difficult for an observer to know which rotation is the "blueprint" one.

So from my best 22 I see Maxfield coming in for Crouch and James for Schauble...even though Dempster was more impressive...you wouldn't put him on Holland, Everitt or Barker would you?

    Thus Rd 1 team

Five midfielders - Williams, Kirk, J. Bolton, Kennelly, Maxfield,

Two Small Forwards - McVeigh, N.Davis

Two Small Backs - Bevan, Mathews

Two Medium Forwards - Goodes, O'Keefe

Two Medium Backs - Barry, C. Bolton

Two Tall Forwards - Hall, O'Loughlin

Two Tall Backs - James, Roberts - Thomson

    One Ruckman - Ball

    Bench

    One Ruckman/Tall Forward - Doyle
    One Medium - Nicks
    Two Smalls - Schneider, Buchanan

    Emergencies

One Tall - Saddington (forward only)
    Two Smalls - Moore, Ablett

It's still five weeks until round 1 so I think its way too early to even speculate on who might be available. Injuries may also occur in the trial games.

Roos said a few weeks ago that only Crouch and Schauble were in doubt for round 1.

I think Kennelly on the wing in round 1 may be a little optimistic. I'd like to see it, but I suspect that it won't happen for a while yet.

I am never happy with playing cr@p teams in rounds 1 or 22 because they have nothing to lose and everything to prove

Sam Mitchell being out for round 1 helps the cause, he seems to pull out great games against us.

Putting the media quotes made by Roos with the injury reports barring any further injuries we probably will only be Schuable & Crouch down on our best available 22.

Although I want to see Nick Davis put a couple of games together before we claim him ready to go round 1.

If Schuable misses then James will probably play (LRT is a starter no matter what) and you would expect Buchanen to get a run for Crouch.

the swans also seem to play worse against bad teams.

Even if Schuable plays, I would be 99.9% certain on current form LRT will be lining up at CHB on the SCG against the Hawks in round 1.

We have lacked height down back for many years and Roos won't need too much encouragement to play LRT if he is fit and playing well.

If that's the case, where goes Goodes?

Give Goodes a license to roam anywhere from HB to the wing and HF with occasional runs on the ball as a mobile around the ground ruckman/ruckrover.

He is far more dangerous when given freedom to roam.

Leave LRT at CHB and give him time to work on the defensive side of his game (spoiling and bodywork).

Goodes can pinch hit as a key tall defender when needed.

I believe that Goodes will continue to play CHB until he either succeeds at it, or poor form forces him back into the ruck (if permissible), or forward.

I do not believe that the role of 'labrador retriever' can exist in modern football - St. Kilda semi-final anyone?

I know that LRT has had many fans since (before ) his debut.

I do not believe his popularity has anything to do with his ability to play AFL football.

If Schauble is unavailable - Heath James is our next best KPP defender. I don't rate him either, but he's got buckets on LRT.

LRT, what joy he will give the posters again.I reckon that we would all like him to succeed as he's a Sincity boy from a bum-sniffing background.Watching him , IMO, his courage is undoubted and, for a big bloke, he has pace and athletism .Note the way he can chase and his ability to bend and control the ball.He has worked on his kicking, his fitness and his overall skills but I think he is still a year away from being a KPP,if ever. His disposal and reading of the game will take time .
BUT, please please make it .

See, the point is that the further out it is the more the need to SPECULATE...seeing as one can't predict. The fun bit, is surmising, guessing, not knowing, having a go based on analysis, past experience....and hope. It's called being a footy fan in the off seasan, and it's fun. You should try it.
