As they weren't using turnstiles the count is a mystery - especially as some people (especially kids) went in and out serveral times.

I'm afraid I don't share the same optimism. There were few positives to gleam out of the match at all. passes just not hitting targets, or often fired out in tumble punt fashion anywhere or to player under extreme pressure. Brisbane were clinical getting the ball into the forward line, with only their bad kicking meaning the margin wasn't even larger.

That dwarf garden gnome umpire made some atrocious decisions down our end. A couple of gift goals to Brisbane resulted. Not happy.

The Cheer Squad had been making banners in the morning, so most of us only got there at half time. Considering the fact that 3 goals were kicked in the second term, I actually witnessed one goal. And lugged all the flags to wave them twice only, whe they came out for the 2nd half and when we kicked our only goal for the second half. (The things you do for your club, hey! )

Despite all this the Cheer Squad gang had the time of our lives. We sat up the back in the lower tier behind the goals and with only our small group of hardcores preceeded to make one hell of a racket. Some great verbal at both Hobbit umpire and Akamanis in the goal square in the second half. Kids below us started "Akka is a wanker", most of our area joined in. "Fitzroy Bears Fitzroy Bears Fitzroy Bears....."

How arrogant have the bloody Lions become, I tell you. The 2nd siren had long blown when the wankers were still lying on the ground doing their wind-down session. They knew there was a kick to kick, yet smugly lay them continuing their wind-downs as if the people wanting to get on was on no interest nor concern to them at all. we started up a slow clap that quick went around the ground. Even the ground annoucer said that we would have to wait for the Lions to get off the ground, ie implying that he too was waiting for them to get off. For a club I once had a strong soft spot for, I'm increasngly becoming enfuriated with the whole Greater Than Thou attitude you get from the Brisbane team and club these days. It is as if their poo doesn't stink or something.

Still it was worth the wait to get on the oval for a kick. Kicking on the pristine Telstra Stadium pitch is something you don't get to do every day. I didn't get donged by a flying a football idea, which is a nice change during kick to kick. Most of the CS gang have no idea how to kick a footy. It shows you how many ae not brought up on the game. Only Benny_w and i can send a drop punt of any description sailing off our boots. And with me, it can often skew off anywhere.

Not the result we wanted, but I still had a great deal of fun with the Cheer Squad gang today, both at the game and in the Brewery afterwards. Indeed many of us spent the whole evening with each other over some italian food in Leichhardt; we are heading from being people who HAVE to be together at the football to people who LIKE to be together in general . And have a great deal of fun in each other's company.

i just wish my team gave me a little cause for optimism for the upcoming season. Frankly at the moment it just doesn't.

did you merely taunt him with remarks about his physical attributes, or were you extra brave because of them?
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

5,200 crowd! I only saw a max of 5 people in those images! How many crowd was at last weeks game? But they had Hawks and StK fans too so they got the best seats so the previous fans didn't take them all. But we're entitled to anyway!

I'm not alarmed but definately alert!!

With a game like this with everyone at 50% it just massively highlighted the skill difference between the two sides, Aker might be a wanker, but he can effortlessly scoop up a crumb and pop one through on the left, beating our blokes at about half pace.

Sure we can shut teams down like no other when we are at full strength (I only saw the second half today and you never know which coach/team is the culprit but at times it looked like we were pushing 3 unmarked Swans back into our defensive 50, everytime we had the ball and looked up there was an army of Lions lining up across half back to eat up any forward foray. What is the sense of turning a practise match into a armrestle!!) but we need a better balance than what we saw last year.

I was very optimistic about this year a few weeks ago. This is the 3rd year of the 3 year plan right.... (or was it five I've forgotten!!!) I'm still hoping we can get a better balance of game plan (attacking and defensive) than last year but on todays effort I think we'll be seeing more of what we saw for the majority of last year. I don't think it is enough to take us into and win a Grand Final.

I also wonder what sort of effect this sort of game plan will have on blokes like Jared Moore (sp?), clearly a "footballer" who will rack up in tight disposals if he gets the chance. Will it turn him into just another stopper instead of getting him to further enhance his already reasonable skills???

It is good to see the coach not writing it off

With no way to get stats from practice matches. please tell us. Who is NOT winning the ball in the centre. Who is giving it away? Reports saying nice things about Buchanan, Maxfield amd Williams. You would think then that we must have got some ball in the midfield.

"Clearly the ones you are disappointed in are the ones who have been around the club for a while," Roos said. "If they're the ones making the mistakes, eventually you have to weed them out and move them on."

Who else does he mean apart from Fosdike? Powell? James?

Ok kicking training at 0900 - Sundays at Moore park ;o)

Ive actually have taken a few guys (new coverts) out for a kick and at one stage we had a regular group each weekend.

It was funny at the start guys going for marks getting hit in the face, sore hands from handballing / fingers, complaining the balls too hard... it hurt their feet etc and this was just having a kick!

                  Cheers

No shame in getting done by a 3/4 strenth triple premiership club with a 1/2 strength young squad.

Who remembers getting done by Carlton in a similar game last year? Getting kicked by the wooden spooners by 100 points might rank slightly worse!

Having said that, we did play poorly and without much interest I thought.

One fella who hasn't got a mention from any of the media out there yesterday was Nick Potter. For the Swans yesterday, he was probably BOG with 7 minutes of midfield play!

Baz presented as well as ever but couldn't "buy a Mark in a German Bank".

Bally got plenty of it but started his mogrel punts again. Reckon he just drops it from too high. Needs to bend over a bit the lazy sod!

Wasn't really worth the trip in the end. Terrible Terrible Game. Only a couple impressed me and they were Willoughby and Potter.

Willoughby looks very evasive, another Paul Williams type for sure. Didn't like him down back but still did an OK job down there. Kicked a nice goal where he dodged and weaved through a thousand Lions, (nah about 3), straightened and slotted it through the middle.

The crowd that was there was mostly all in one section, behind (or around) the photographers.

I definitely think there were. From up the back where we were behind the goals the area on the wing they had open was about 70% full in the retractable stand.

There were also a good number of people behind the goals too.

Had they promoted it properly, they could have gotten 10000 i reckon.

As usual whern the going is bad Barry gets the ****s and goes as bad back as CHB to get the footy. Whilst this is all and well, it hardly gives us anything to kick to up forward.

It is highly noticeable from high up that Roos instructs as many players as possible at times to huddle around ball ups so that the ball cannot get out. A very very cynical tactic I find.

Roos has a lot to prove to me this season. I will lose support for any coach engaging in some terrible tactics to close down matches. As pioneers of the sport in NSW we cannot afford to be continually playing boring football.

It worries me that we still are.
