As far as I know Schauble and Saddington have never been in consideration - neither has played a pre-season match (and they're not Micky O' ). Ablett is not really in contention either, is he? IMO he should be happy enough with not being delisted last year (I'd take Thewlis back in a heart beat ).

Maybe Roos' comments pertained to Crouch - I can't find the article to judge.

Last year, when he swung back there, he seemed to calm it down and give it more structure. With Schauble out that seems pretty important - it will help whichever of Dempster, James, LRT play settle down, especially if Leo is given the number one defensive role.

If Davis, O'Loughlin and O'Keefe all play, there's not much call for him up in the forward line in any case.
I've only seen one live game this year, but Nicks really underlined that his value to the team is as a utility, and I think Roos will continue to use him wherever he inflicts the most damage.

I'd say that against the Hawks there's a strong likelihood that he'll play a similar role to the Dogs game . . . half-back sweeper early-on, then moving forward in the second half to add an extra dimension to the goal-kickers.

Does anyone else wish Roos will play Crouchy R1 even if unfit...To come that close would be awful..

Does anyone know if Crouch is likely to play next weekend? If not you'd have to reckon he has zero chance of playing in round 1. If he plays the greater part of a game this weekend and pulls through OK, maybe he's still an outside chance. All will depend on whether he's managed to retain his physical fitness through it all.

Defies belief that Buchanan might miss after kicking 4 goals, but unless we go in with one less tall (probably James or perhaps Saddington), I can't see who will miss out for him.

He HAS to play. That's the joy of selection. When a player is unexpectaedly places himself in the top 5 players then you just have to work out who gets surprisingly left out. So from your list that would be Bevan, McVeigh, C. Bolton, James, Schneider, or Saddington.

My team is the same as Robbie's except I don't believe that Micky will play, thus circumventing the need to choose between James and Dempster.

Back: Bevan - James - Bolton

                      H-Back: Kennelly - Goodes - Barry

Centre: Mathews - Williams - Maxfield

                      H-Forw: O'Keefe - Hall - Buchanan

Forw: Schneider - Doyle - Davis

Ruck: Ball - Kirk - Bolton

                      Bench: Dempster - McVeigh - Nicks - Roberts-Thomson

                      Emerg: Jolly, Fosdike, Spriggs

Not Considered. Schauble, Ablett, Crouch, O'Loughlin, Saddington

Cant believe most dont have LRT in best 22 !

Has everyone watched different games or read different articles ?

He has been in best in every game he has played and was repeatedly praised by Roos !

It would be hard to believe given Roos comments that he wont get a run in first game especially with Schauble out.

Whoops just re-read not most only some !

Based on pre season, Nicks and LRT both must get a run.

                              Mathews Barry Bevan
                              Nicks Goodes C Bolton
                              Kenelly J Bolton Maxfield
                              Davis Hall O'Keefe
                              O'Laughlin Doyle Buchanan
                              Ball Williams Kirk
                              Schneider LRT Fosdike/Spriggs Jolly

I would never have Fosdike in, but they always seem to find a way of getting him in.

How could Nicks be left out given his excellent pre season form and his outstanding second half in 2004.

First up against the Bullies he took them on himself. In form no matter where you play this bloke he is invaluable to the team. He is back in town and look out for a blinder of a season from him.
