    He can't.

Nicks, Monty and LRT are the three "fringe players" who must have sown up their spots for round 1. Maybe Schneider has too.

I'd hoped that McVeigh would have done so too, especially after his NSO game, but he doesn't seem to have quite gone on with it since. He must still be in the mix though, especially since he's a key player for the future.

Given that Crouch and O'Loughlin are certainties in our top 22, barring a dramatic/inexplicable form slump and massive injuries how could we possibly go any worse than last year, and Goodes is fit.

      Optimism folks.

          Nicks James C Bolton

          Kennelly Goodes Barry

          Mathews J Bolton Maxfield

          O Keefe Hall Davis

          O'loughlin Doyle Bucky

          Ball Williams Kirk

          Int: Schneider, LRT, Jolly, Spriggs/McVeigh/Fosdike/Dempster/Bevan

Geez we look strong on paper. Still want LRT to be the permanent CHB and give goodes a run in the midfield, but its only rd 1. Some good scoring power with schneider and mcveigh on the bench. FB is the only concern, but i have faith in Heath.

Aah, but who are you leaving out then Liz?

There seems to be an emerging consensus that, with the injuries we know about, the best squad for the opening round will be:

              Mathews
              James
              C.Bolton
              Nicks
              Goodes
              Barry
              Kennelly
              J.Bolton
              Maxfield
              O'Keefe
              Hall
              Davis
              Doyle
              O'Loughlin
              Dempster
              Buchanan
              Jolly
              Kirk
              Williams
              Ball
              Schneider
              McVeigh
              Spriggs
              Fosdike
              Roberts-Thonpson
              Bevan
              Fixter

So which five do we discard?

Maybe 6 if Crouch is still an outside chance.

One of Doyle or Jolly may miss out - probably Jolly on form though this might not be a good sign for the "gun" recruit.

One of Fosdike or Spriggs will probably miss - neither should be assured of his spot on pre-season form alone.

If Goodes plays and Roos still intends him for defence, I suspect one of James and Dempster will miss.

Roos is a huge fan of Fixter by all reports but maybe he needs to play some consistent football at a lower level to get back into the groove.

Neither Bevan nor McVeigh would be a certainty, though Bevan is likely to play if neither Crouch nor Fixter does, to take the "small defender" role. McVeigh will be squeezed if both Fosdike and Spriggs play.

Really interesting choices given that a few of our best 22 will be out. When you go through this exercise our squad is really looking good looks like a good year coming up!!

Would they leave Spriggs or Jolly out? Would they like to have a look at Spriggs and Jolly early and against Hawthorn.

Although Mcveigh went ok last year Fosdike may squeeze him out of the side early, they may look at experience and see how Fossy goes.

Given Goodes is a little under done I wouldnt be suprised to see him start on the bench which may give LRT the start at CHB?

I dont think Mol will play or Schauble - Saddington - Ablett - or Crouch 50 -50.

The starting line up I would like to see

Bevan Barry C Bolton Ball Kirk Williams

                  Maxfield Lrt Kennelly

                  Mathews Bolton Spriggs

                  Okeefe Hall Davis

                  Schnieder Doyle Goodes

Buccanan Nicks Jolly Fosdike or Dempster

I just can't see McVeigh being left out. He may not have had the best preseason, but he played plenty of senior games last year and is seen as the future of our midfield (is this too big a leap). He will play but I don't know who won't. I hope this makes sense.

Commentators will call him Fosdike anyway

I agree it will be interesting with McVeigh, does it come down to McVeigh or Fosdike / Spriggs?

I would really like too see Dempster in the team but who would be left out maybe Schnieder, Buccanan, Fosdike or Spriggs due to team balance?

Wouldnt it be great to be a fly on the wall for this team selection!

What if Schauble , Mol, Crouch, Saddington and Ablett were fully fit who would be left out??

                        Cheers

Fully fit 22. Pointless exercise, but enjoyable.

                          Mathews Schuable Crouch

                          C Bolton LRT Barry

                          Goodes J Bolton Williams

                          O'Keefe Hall N Davis

                          O'Loughlin Doyle Saddington

                          Ball Maxfield Kirk

                          Jolly Nicks Kennelly Buchanen

                          Emergency; Schneider McVeigh Fosdike

That leaves Spriggs, James, Powell and Fixter out.
