These two players, plus Neitz, would probably have many interesting pub conversations after retirement about the "bloody umps" if they ever got together.

Looks like Gehrig's was getting paid more and more frees against him as his haircut got steadily worse.

Are umpires constrained to an approved set of haircuts and penalising Fraser and Barry as a way of expressing their frustration at this situation ? I can see dark days ahead for Malceski.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

"I'm certain that it improved last year," Gieschen said.

Here is an example of a man totally out of his depth. "I'm certain that it improved last year...." which means he has not had a look at the stats or the arguments...he has no idea and is just assuming that this ridiculous situation would have improved after the talking to he gave the umps before last season.

Even the most cursory glance would have shown him that 2004 was exactly the same as 2003.....not just Baz the whole Swans team being treated unfairly in both fifties..(we seem to break even in the midfield in terms of dodgy decisions, but get near goals and we are slaughtered).

IMHO there seems to be a "no Swans frees" area when we are within 30m of our goals but at the other end every little thing gets picked up and our opponents end up with 2 or 3 easy goals a game whereas we seem to be forced to work for every point.

Theoretically Barry and all the key forwards will be awarded a stack of free kicks this year as the practice of hacking arms in a marking contest is now deamed a free kick.It is in the genes of backman of to hack the arms so if applied consistently there should be more frees and more goals from frees but umpires seem to be geographically aware and may pay this free on the wing and not 10 metres out.It will be interesting to see how it is applied.

Interesting Barry Hall comment in this article - even the opposition players think of him as someone who gets "special", or is that "un-special", treatment.

That's really referring to the "treatment" Hall gets from the media compared the Riewoldt, the media darling.
