My bugbear with Saddington is that after 5 years(im sure im wrong), physically he looks like a first year recruit, if he is going to take a key position he just isnt big enough to take pack marks or crash packs and open things up for our runners...

I was simply emphasising that not everyone needs to be a superstar silky-skilled ball-winner to fulfill their role in the team.

Goodes being traded, and O'Loughlin for that matter, was a complete joke.

Can't speak for everyone, but I called for both of those two as potential trades last year. My rationale at the time, and I stick by it, is that they were both struggling badly and had been for a while. Either it was necessary for them to pick up their game or they needed to be traded at the end of the year before they lost their trade value. There's no point in keeping a player that should be good if he is no longer.

As it happened Goodes improved immeasurably and now trading makes no sense, however you can only say that now with hindsight. Still, given that I had said at the end of the year, if he had struggled for the rest of the year, then maybe the trade might have made sense.

As for O'Loughlin, he's worth nothing to us at the moment. Hopefully, he can actually get back on the track and produce some outstanding games. We saw flashes of it towards the end of last year, but flashes do not make a star player. One problem for us is that if he never achieves his performances of a few years ago, then we've really lost out on him, both in terms of his on-field play and his potential tradeability.

im sure when we do get some serious KPP down back he will be irreplaceable on the HBF where he can push up to the wing and have a running, marking role. that will suit him best! we have the makings of a killer back line (i know people are saying that they are holding up now but it is far from a good back line, you have to admit) with sadders, fixter, c. bolton and mathews (i dont like him heaps but im realising that he is alittle more valuable than i thought), we just need to find some big fellas, hopefully LRT and maybe hunt can fill those roles. schauble looks like he needs a couple of weeks off, he was SO slow on the weekend... i dont think he is good enough for KPP either mind you, he just isnt strong enough above his head, imho.

Here was I thinking the loud crack from the Crows banner pole snapping was an omen.

I thought we were out classed in the first half. The Crows looked like a professional football side while we looked like a rabbel. The zoning for the kickouts that the Crows laid on really put the guys under pressure. The working of the loose ball from the Crows was fantastic - the guys taking the ball from ground always had options with at least two guys running past him. The general field position was superior and then you have individual talent like McLeod to top it off. They played with confidence in each other.

Having said all this, the Swannies tightened up the midfield and generally played much better in the second half and if they started like that we may have had a chance.

Yeah, me too, but I then recalled Grand Final day 1996 when the inflatable Wayne Carey balloon-creature wouldn't inflate. I think we know who won that day.

I suggested at the start of last season at around Round 3 or 4 that Goodes who up to that point was playing poorly, if the deal was right we trade him. My idea behind that was, since 1999 he hadn't played well and his "value" was going to drop if he didn't improve. Now at the time I suggested a trade for Lenny Hayes or Nick Davis and a 1st Round Pick. Never at any stage did I say trade for trade sake but if it was a good deal then we SHOULD think about it.

Now of course we know from that point Goodes improved ten fold and the "idea" of trading him became a moot point because there would be no fair deal for him.

Saddington I think is unlucky because of the fact he is tall, has pace and can mark the ball and thus is being pushed into a Key Postion defencive role that doesn't suit him. He will never be able to play man on man fully. I think he is suited to either a role on the wing/back flank or in the back pocket in a way simular to what Seymour has done in the past.

Make no mistake EVERY single player is tradeable these days for the right deal - just ask Melbourne, what everybody thinks we should do and even to some extent what the club wants won't be known untill trade season happens then and only then will we know who stays and who goes.

For what its worth I can't believe that after round 3 that everyone wants blood just look at our list we are hardely world beaters we have some talent but it will take time to see exactly how much. I think everyones getting carried away with round one we aren't as nearly as good as we think.

He should have been untradeable, but Melbourne were too stupid to realise that.

I think melbourne did the right thing, and shane didnt really leave them much choice either CTS, melbourne didnt really want to let their brownlow medallist go, but in the end I think they did all they could do to keep him.
Lets face it, shane won the brownlow, but it is widely recognised that he was one of the worst players to win a brownlow - ever.
Now since the brownlow year, he had a shocking year the year after winning the brownlow, because he couldnt cope with the taggers, 2002 was ok for him, then he went downhill again last year, so he had one decent year and it was only ok since unexpectedly winning the brownlow.
Now he was one of melbournes highest if not highest players last year and as i said he had a down year and he finished something like 11th or 12th in melbournes B/F. Now at the end of the year melbourne couldnt justify what they were paying him , rightly so, and asked him to stay on, but a reduced price, to reflect his value to the club, but he wasnt willing to stay with his team mates and reflect his value so he cracked it and melbourne had no other choice but to let him go.

The only reason shane will be a go alrite at collingwood is because he wont get half the attention he had from taggers at melbourne and that should bring him back to his form of 2000.
