SO the way they folded last year still rankles. Good. But there is always the reference to the Swans final quarter loss in R19. I was away at the time. Can anyone tell me if the Swans just fell off the pace (dramatically!) or was it the events on the bench that caused a loss of concentration? I've yet to read anything to suggest that Wally's death was a contributing factor in the loss. Was it?

Yeah it was related to the death of the trainer - they mentioned it at the time. Poor guy had his heart attack right next to the interchange. Very sad, and understandable that players lose focus and interest on the game.

Those people that refer to it as "one of the greatest comebacks of all time" need to have a good hard look at themselves, someone dying during the course of a match. You cannot get more tragic than that

There was much debate about the issue at the time. The general consensus was that the swans lost the plot before the drama unfolded around the bench. The Roos came out hard after 3qtr time, and kicked goal after goal, the swans just seemed to stop.

Unfortunately, Ball was the unlucky one who desperately put the ball oob, deliberately. the resultant free put the Roos in front.

Whether the wally issue affected them, only the players really know that.

I was so dissapointed when I read this was about Leigh Brown. I thought that somehow Jon Brown was going to be able to play in 2 weeks time and was going to gun for Hall.

No. It was one of the weakest efforts by the Swans in years.

We were up by 7 goals, and the 'Roos kicked 6 goals to 1 in the first 14 minutes.

At this point Wally had his heart attack. However, as I stated at the time, to a torrent of abuse from a number of people who have probably never set foot as a participant in any arena in any competitive sport, most of the players were probably unaware of what was happening on the bench. The players and coach confirmed later they knew nothing about it until after the game was finished.

Your history of great accuracy continues. The articles at the time clearly stated that all players going through the interchange were aware there was something wrong with him - wasn't Nathan Gibbs trying to revive him.

Would you be focussed on the game if 50 metres away someone you knew well had just died.
