    Something to think about

My eldest son is a port supporter [ I know thats no good ] and we went to the port v kanga's game at telstra dome last year.
The kanga's won by about 80 points and port strugled to score a goal. To put it bluntly they looked pathetic in that game but they still went on to win the flag.
I'm not saying we don't have a lot of improving to do but you never know what the rest of the season will bring.

    Go Swannies.

Si, after all, it was only one game. We were bound to have a bad game anyhow. As I said before, glad it happened this round.

It would be foolish to write off the season yet.

However, so soon into the year it's disappointing to see us playing such poor football. Last week wasn't particularly flash overall and this week was woeful.

The trouble is that this was a should-win game. If we are going to do anything in September we need to win the should-win games. It's not good enough to go down to the Kangas and then flog the Lions (as if!). We are a top eight, and without stretching it, a top five team. We have to do better.

It does make it very difficult. If the comparison is Port, they may have played one bad game, but they generally win 17-18 and finish on top. We don't win that many and don't finish on top, so as dimelb says, there are certain games we really shouldn't drop.

Well, that's us. Win the impossible games, and lose the games we should win.

If we can start to consistently put away the games we should win (as in 1996/97/98) then we'll be a good chance. We're always a chance to spring an upset at the most unlikely times.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

There is one benefit of following a side that does play a dull drab stoppage-based game, that even when we play awefully we generally rarely get thrashed.

Today we were terrible, yet only lost the match in the last 10-15 minutes.

I'd still rather be in our position that following Collingwood after their feeble loss to the lowly lowly Western Bulldogs.

I thought Sydney outplayed the Roo's in the first half and had more possession. But our disposal and lack of accuracy at goal kept the Roos close. Our second half was appalling.

But the thing was, we got a point, they got a point, we got a goal, they got a goal and so forth. They just kept catching up to us. I thought, the way we were playing, that it was going to just about draw because we were even so many times. Our margin didn't get greater than 15 points in our favour! Pathetic.

Spot on. We had them almost gone midway through the second quarter, except we had missed a fair few gettable goals meaning they were still within 2 goals, and then they got the last couple of the 2nd quarter to make it a 3pt game at halftime when it should have been closer to 3 goals.

yes, but we failed to win it in the third when it was there to be taken.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Im not sure if this has been said often enough or emphasised enough so im going to scream it out at my computer (and hopefully you will feel my rath at the other end)

THEY ALL NEED TO LEARN HOW TO KICK - WHETHER THAT BE AT GOALS OR IN GENERAL! ESPECIALLY AT GOALS!
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

They were pretty good at hitting targets last week and they got booed for that.
