    Next 4 weeks - 1 win?

Just had a look at the draw - after round 6 playing as we are now, we will be 2 wins 4 losses at best.

I am saying Adelaide at home is a win and losses against Bris(A), Melb(H) and WCE(A).

Doesn't look too good and this week will be a wake up call - play as we have and we will be thrashed.

I'll say it til I'm blue in the face - Tadhg to the half forward line - we need someone will extreme pace in the forward half who can kick.

    Go Bloods!

Don't get too carried away, with form at this stage. Melbourne are no certs and our Brisbane form is good.

Not all is lost, except last week's opportunity.

P.S. Agree with TK, except I believe wing is his place, to allow him to run and score from 50.
    Staying ahead of the game...

That is utter nonsense, the "deny Brisbane the ball at all costs" game plan has worked in the past and will be put into full effect this week.

It may be ugly but it is the only way we will be able to go with the Lions on Saturday night for any extended lenght of time.

We can however listen to some on these boards and play straight up the guts and kick it long to a contest in the forward line and have Brisbane do what they have done best for the last 4 years (zone and pick off the ball) and lose by 15 goals.

I don't like our current numbers back posession game, but sometimes you just have to stomach it to get a result and this week is that week.

God - another boring game to watch!

Ummm... why go from one extreme to the other? There is a point inbetween!

But not between 'n' and 'b'.

There are lots of points in between. Free the players up. They are all in the AFL because they can play. Let them play.

Swans have an annoyingly regular habit of seemingly playing to the level of their opponents. So alls not lost yet.

There was no doubt this game was going to be anything but boring, let's not kid ourselves player for player we are not at the level of Brisbane so the game plan Roos has devised (and had some success with) must be used again to get the result we want.

I agree, no need to go from one extreme to the other. I would have liked to have seen Roos take our loose man in defence down to stand Archer and direct the players to go longer and more direct when we had them 17 points down. They were ripe for the picking then and another couple more would have finished them off.

One thing of note was with both MOL, Saddington and Doyle out we lacked that second target after Bazza. So maybe Roos was reluctant to go longer to Brown, Colbert and Watt?

Also, while everyone loves to bag their favourites (LRT, Bolton etc) one interesting point of note was that Ryan O'Keefe was totally missing from the game which no one seems to have pointed out. While he has earned enough credits to have the ocassional bad game it meant that Bazza had to move much further from goal to link up with the ball coming in, thus resulting in Bazza's effectiveness being blunted somewhat.

                two points

a/ havent found any of our recent games against brisbane boring, we may keep the ball of them a bit but they do man up, dont let us just wander around the defensive fifty chipping it at a snails pace.

b/ the topic of this thread is pretty negative considering we had one loss and are still fifth, hope people around the club arent this negative about the next 4 weeks

I noted that ROK received a big bump in the 2nd quarter just outside the goal square. Looked like he sustained an upper leg injury (quad, groin?) and I'm surprised he carried on. Agree he was very ineffective afterward.

It was ROK's poorest game for a long time. Difficult to tell what happened from the telecast as he just wasnt even sighted.

One would hope (and believe) that he will bounce back from that.

I didn't see much of the game as I was working but I did see the stats of the game.ROK's were awful. I thought he must have been injured early and didn't take any further part they were that bad.
Jolly came back to earth as well.2 kicks,1 handpass 1 mark 1 free for 5 frees against and 1 goal.

Could win the next 4 if they get it right, who knows. Every week is different.

Last time we played the Lions we took them by surprise a bit by kicking longer and much more quickly into the forward line than in previous meetings. Of course it helped that our midfield was going well against theirs.

That's the thing. If you take forever and play keepings off they will flood the forward line (and we will all die of boredom!). If you bomb it in long they zone off and muscle you out of it.

We need to either work it around with a degree of purpose (as Port do) or get it in quickly so we have one-on-ones. Even better would be to mix the two up.

I don't recall seeing him play a good game at Manuka, for some reason down there he goes missing.

last year he didn't do much, it was the Saddo and Goodes show.

The year before he'd just been elevated from the reserves and put in a poor showing again. He was lucky and was picked as an emergencey the following week as Cressa and Magic were both named in the team under an injury cloud, Magic pulled out and he got a run, from there on he hit his straps.

It's no excuse, but for some reason it's just not been a happy place for him recently.
