Is there too much pressure to play finals?

Are the swans the victims of a desire to play finals football. Sometimes i feel like the team plays to make the finals, as opposed to winning a premiership. Perhaps it is because playing the finals consistently will attract the fans.

But it seems that it means the team never goes back and develops enough to win a flag, i guess in this long rambling i am saying/asking is the team out to make finals, because it will look better and is good considering the overall team record, and is that costing us a chance at a flag?

To answer honestly, while the club publicy says it needs to remain at an acceptable level to retain and attract new members etc I reckon privately with people like Roos, Ireland, Longmire, Roos, Jonas and the recruiting staff that they would be doing everything in their power to build a side that ultimately can win a premeirship.

Despte what crap you might hear in the media from all players, coaches and club staff at the beginning of each year all want nothing else but be the best. And you can only claim that by winning a premiership.

i was just reading a stats site and provided its accurate since 1996(including 1996) we have made the finals 7 out of 9 seasons

only brisbane and essendon with 8 appearances have made it more and they both won flags in that time

apologies if what i read was absolute rot!

                          Very interesting stats.
Big problem somewhere within the Swans and their record. Been given every opportunity, gave themselves plenty, but never have been able to take it!!
Some one inside the club needs to address these issues, cos it really doesn't look like this team will get there in the next 2 or 3 years either.
The more we deny there is a problem and tell all concerned parties and dissenters to shut up, the more compounded and difficult it will be to fix this problem.

You don't play finals football, you have a snowballs chance in hell of winning a flag.

                            Simple as that.

The more finals games you play, the more likely you are to win.

                              The above stats disprove that.
Teams that re-group, build a solid team ethic over 2 or 3 years and then assult the flag with that new determination and new found culture are the ones who prove succesfull.
It's obvious really. In the light of failer, human beings often rest up, reasses and after they have recoverd somewhat get up and have another crack at it.
Why should the Swans be beyond this process and feel like they have to make the finals every single year ?
They don't they just have to win a Grand final once evey 10 years and they would be far ahead of where they are now.
Playing in unsuccesssful finals campains is overrated.
