    friday night scg

i was just thinking about friday night footy, why dont the swans ever play at all even at the scg??

is it just because of rugby??? i liked swans on friday night footy, though it used to be live on channel 7.

I think the biggest thing is that friday night footy rates huge in prime time in victoria, and generaly no one there really cares about the swans down there. Essendon, Richmond, Collingwood could pull 60,000 and rate through the roof on any friday night.

The major reason is that Nine would NOT show it live in NSW or QLD. We have not had one since the new TV contract started.

I wasn't a big fan of them and dont miss them. I prefer Sat nights myself. Then again, Fri nights were boozier and that always helps the atmosphere.

We did have one - the 2003 game v Melbourne where we kicked 10 goals in the last quarter. But that was because it was ANZAC day.

Last Fri night game before that was 2001 v Essendon - the miserable night where we got done and Rowan Warfe busted his shoulder.

                Not really.

I prefer sunday games, because then I go out both nights or play football on saturday.

The one before that was against Richmond in 97 I think. It was Friday 13th. It had two memorable things happen.

O'loughlin went off the field and not via the gate and then was not allowed back on for the rest of the game. About 5 minutes later, a Richmond player who I can't remember did the same thing. He wasn't allowed back on either.

                      Bourke, Bayes's opponent, was
removed. (Over)zealous Swan officials spotted that Bourke didn't leave
the field through the designated interchange area (by about 20 cm) and
pointed this out to the "interchange steward". As a result, Bourke
wasn't allowed back on for the rest of the game. Somewhat aggrieved
Richmond officials got O'Loughlin under the same dopey rule in the
                      third quarter.

                      We kicked 26 goals!

Definitely unequivocably NOT. It is a real stress having to bring a change of clothes to work, then battle traffic on South Dowling Sts and Anzac Pdes.(Remember this is Sydney, and wearing footy stuff even at work is way uncool)

People trying to go get clogged in traffic that doesn't move for ages-a bus I caught took over 45 minutes to get to half way down Cleveland St back in 97 against Richmond.

I went to a NSW AFL Supporters Clubs meeting last night at Fox Studios. The bus was packed solid, everyone was irritated, hot bothered stressed and crammed together like sardines. After erxtracting myself out of the thing, I was on the point of just say "stuff this".

Friday nights at the SCG meant mega mega stress just to get them. Homebush would be easier I guess. But you are still mega stuffed after the day's work.

Saturday nights are heaps better in my books. (even though with my new job I may well be needing to come straight from work to the SCG in any case)

I love Friday night football in Sydney, really miss it. Always a nice atmosphere after work, and I found a lot of "non fans" from work wanted to go.

Will not happen in Sydney again until a network is willing to show it at a reasonable time here though.

While there is the potential to attract the "after-work" crowd, I personally don't like friday night games. Why?

                            - As JF mentioned, you have to drag footy stuff to work, and work stuff to footy.

                            - Moore Park is not easy to get to by public transport from the city, especially around peak times.

                            - I live out in the wild west, so getting back by public transport late on the friday night isn't so great either - and there normally isn't time to get home and drive back in.

I guess I'd still be there if they were on... But Friday nights are not my preferred option.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

The SCG does a have a fantastic atmosphere for night games. It wasn't that long ago that most games seemed to be on a Saturday night and IMO (stats may prove me wrong) the crowds always seemed to be bigger on those Saturday nights than they were on a Sunday.

What happened to night games at the SCG? I know Stadium Australia takes a few away.
