During Q2 when the crowd was quiet and Meredith nearby, I gave him a sermon on the need to repent for past sins. Glad he listened!

Yes that dog thing really did happen about 25 years ago. It made it really understandable for me that the Swedish soccer umpire retired a few weeks ago. You don't want to bow to the pressure but when the safety of the family is threatened I think he made the right choice. Anyway on a more positive note I think it was a really hard game for those blokes to umpire and I was glad it was not me. The power of going to ground can't be underestimated. Lloydy and Lynchy were the masters.

Baz, you have the formula, now go out and get 3 a game!

BTW, anybody read Sheahan's assessment that you have to punch for the ball and tha arm will inevitably be over the shoulder which is so hypocritical.

Leigh put a midget on Baz and he didn't have the required reach to spoil within the rules. Does this mean we stop protecting the heads of forwards?

The free was there and it wasn't soft at all. I don't care how many times Baz hasn't got one he sould have, this one was there and the past is insignificant. The Pain of Discipline is Nothing Like The Pain of DisappointmentComment

Do you think the umpires sat down and said "which way do we go? If we are going to finally standardise frees for forwards, will we adopt the Lloyd model or the Hall model?" Then they decided that the Hall model would unduly encourage the use of firearms and pickhandles so they went the Lloyd route. I wonder if Baz will get a discount on his life insurance this year?Originally posted by Thunder Shaker
Last year, it would probably not have been paid. I'm not yet used to the new interpretations of the rules.Comment

I actually did 2/3 of a season as an umpire on the central coast and frankly after a few games I was beginning to think my name really was "****in' ****" I was called it so many times.

I can't understand why any sane human would want to be an umpire, perhaps that's why most umpires are self-absorbed martinets?Comment
