    Queensland/northern NSW-based Swans Supporters club

    Hi gang,
JF still in occasionally near monsoonal Brisbane today,
One thing that I think needed instant attention and recognition were the incredible amount of SWANNIES supporters at the game up here last night. You may not have seen them, as people were scattered here and there around the ground.

Unfortunately despite the clubs official allocation on the HBF (where Old Royboys was I think) most of the Swans in the crowd were scattered everywhere. You look at the goals we kicked down the other end in the last quarter. Even despite it being near the Lions Cheer Squad there were heaps and heaps of Swans leaping around deliriously when Bazza's kick went through.

With Lescygnes now living in Vegas, and regulars like Annette now very much part of the gang, it is imperative for the club to try and make attempts to tap into this SEQ/NNSW supporter base. We need a Queensland-based supporters club for our mighty Swans!

You will surely see the pictures JS and Old Royboys will put on here from after the match at the Pineapple Hotel. Even before the game there was a nice little throng of Redandwhiteonliners (and Gayfooty.com.au-ers as well-big Ryan fans too there Bon Bon! ). But after the game we TOOK OVER THE WHOLE PUB. There would have been at least 30 renditions of the club song. Peter and I even broke into "Up there for Sydney" as others fumbled for the words. I don't think I have celebrated this hard after a win in ages!

To be so far from home, yet to be in a pub that was wall to wall in red and white (with very little organisation officially, apart from me posting here) was just an incredible feeling. The Lions in attendance were completely shocked, as we sang, danced, waved flags AND even pour Strongbows over one's head!

The thing is, does anyone know how we can get a QLD/NNSW based Supporters Club going? What do we have to do? Who to we have to approach at the club? (Tony Morwood?) What does the club need for us to take things up here to the next step? I spoke to heaps of SWANS supporters who had come from places like Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Ballina and the Gold Coast. Whilst it seems a few had moved up from the south to live in Brisbane permanently.

I know you got the business card of the old Bloods guy LesCygnes. But are you willing to be the public head of any moves to get an SC going up in Brisvegas. Maybe with regular meet-ups at a pub to watch matches? And trips down here for games too!

Would Tony Morwood or the club putting a letter or ad in the Courier Mail (or Northern Rivers papers) help in generating support up here? Maybe telling Swans supporters that if they wanted to sit with other Swans fans that they could get ticket through the office in Sydney?

The support IS already here. We had fans who flew from as far as Tasmania for the match. We just have to have everyone sitting together. As in unity there is strength. We still couldn't fill 2 rows in the Cheer Squad. Even if many supporters came from other areas in the ground to sit with us, because they were on their own and were getting heckled by the feral locals.

Let's see where this thread takes us. Taking greater steps at tapping into the huge northern NSW supporter base we have will do the club no harm at all. They get NSW TV, they ARE New South Welshmen, but because of proximity can only get to the Lions match up here.

Interesting idea you raise about a NNSW/SE QLD based Swans supporter group, personally can't see why it couldn't be organised and hopefully with approval of the Club in regards to tickets, travel packages to Sydney/Melbourne etc games.
Definitly worth getting in touch with someone at the Club (Myles,Andrew???) and putting forward the idea

Surely they could get together and organise some kind of unofficial supporters group, and then as a group they should contact the club for support.

Well, numbers WERE exchanged at the Pineapple on Saturday. I guess if people such as Lescygnes approach Tony/the club, they can start taking things from there.

I'll be sussing out how the WA Supporters Club got started when I'm over there in 3 weeks.

I think youll find that many (if not most) are Lions season ticket holders (like Annette) sitting in their regular seats (or that prefer to sit up higher. The Brisbane equivalents of Norris Lurker.

Can you get allocated enough seats behind the goals for everyone to sit together?

A guy approached us at the end of the game and asked if we wanted to join the Queensland Swans supporters group. Didn't get his name, but I think he was sitting in the same area as Jason Mooney and friends.

Sounds like you had a blast in Brissy Julian,

A Swans Supporters group up in Northern Nsw/QLD sound like a good idea,

                hope it goes well!
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!

Yes, but for people who are in the club's official Cheer Squad allocation. And people who have come from from Sydney/melbourne etc. Last year we had 2 full rows. This year we couldn't even fill that and had spare seats in the second row.

It is the people who live in northern NSW/SE Qld who we should be attracting. This could have further advantages in terms of merchandising sold. As well as country memberships.

It all just needs for somebody to take this issue by the horns and work out a plan to get things going officially.

If it interests you, I have been in contact with the head of Hawthorn's NSW Supporters Clubs Club. He said that all the various supporters clubs all meet up on a given date per year and discuss issues pertaining to themselves and what they can do to develop co-existance. so there are Hawthorn supporters converging from WA, SA, NSW QLD all over country Victorian on one weekend where they meet the club officials, get a tour of Glenferrie, and discuss issues pertaining to packaged members in conjuction with membership of the Supporters Club. (Apparently this happens with our Swans WA Supporters.)

Whilst not wanting to make comments that will upset the present-day administration of the club, it does have to be said that up until last season the club has not been pro-active in generating organised support interstate or even understanding its worth at all. The WA Supporters went on to give me paper clippings from the late 90s from the WA Press and letters indicating that the club "was not interested' in them or developing a membership base in WA at all "as they had more pressing concerns". Now thanks to the WASSC we have over 300 club members in WA. And are generating valuable revenue from merchandise sales when Tony M brings his travelling band across with their bags full of apparal and so forth.

Were you on the half forward line near where the players came out/
Was the bloke a short guy with a moustache/ If that is so, we chatted, or more succintly broke into umpteen renditions of the club song at the Pineapple.

                      hey its me!

finally on the net for the first time this week (frigging wisdom teeth)

OK, just about to email annette and alan re last weekend and hopefully getting something together up here in Vegas.

obviously this list is the best place for all of us to keep up to date. will continue to postinformation on here, but personally i am keener than mustard itself to get something happening.

i can see a situation where we can approach a publican with a proposal to have a space where swans fans can get together up here and watch the game as one. serving beer would be great!!!

so will kick the ball along and see how it goes.

but agreed there are enough sydneysiders and old bloods up here for this to work

                      love from Vegas

You can just about always count on Julian and Des to bring a little drizzle to Brissy when they come to Swans games. Remember that first year you were here Jules?

That wasn't the first year for JF though j s - that year was when we played on a sat night in a monsoon and got drilled. Although 2003 was fun!
