That was pretty much my first impression too. If, however, he can use his speed and endurance to keep with the packs around the middle, and get to the fall of the ball, he might yet prove to be very useful and using his hands to get it out to a running player. Something I have noticed is that often our midfielders are flat footed when the ball does come out (or if they are moving the handpass goes behind them). Is it my imagination or is this where other teams have an advantage over us? Are the better midfields the ones that get the ball moving by hitting moving players? Is this why we create so many stoppages, because players are often already 'stopped' when they gat the ball?

I admit it is a tough one, I think it is not so much who I would drop from the side named today to bring McVeigh in as whether I would have dropped him in the first place. I thought he was one of the few that were decent in the Kangas game and it was dissapointing to see him dropped, particuarly for a round when there would be no Reserves action.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
