As to other skippers, apart from the ones that I mentioned, you could look at Primus who spent two years out, King who's injured more often than not, RVDB who 'has a strong work ethic and the respect of his peers' (!!) and Kouta, who, whilst he has been brilliant, is now probably past his best due to a horror run with injuries, as players who might not be so reliable on lifting the team.

Mind, I'm not saying that Kirky hasn't been fantastic and is not suitable for the skipper's post, I'm saying that I reckon BBBBHall would be fantastic.

I don't think I made my point very well. If you asked people in Melbourne (or WA or SA) I bet they could name most of the Bomber players but could only name a few Swans and Baz would be on every list.

But most significant player on the team and team leader are very different. Aker could lay claim to currently being the most game-influencing Lion but I don't see his as captain.

If you see any of the team around Stewie (including Baz) you can see he is the boss. Even if you aren't in Sydney, watch the huddles before and during a game. He is universally respected by the players and all aspire to his work rate.

Yes, he is not playing well this season and we all see that. But that is not to say that he should no longer be captain. There was an interesting article in the Advertiser tobday about how Primus had to go back as captain even though Tredrea captained the premiership team - anything else would be a slap in the face to a captain injured on the field of battle.

If any of us had spent a week or more working with the Swans we'd have some knowledge of who the leaders are. Only occasionally do we get an insight into how it's working. Like Baz saying he was surprised he was in the leadership group. I don't think this was fake modesty. You think he's a great leader in the club - he doesn't. Who has the better knowledge? Public perception and team dynamics can be widely different. Remember Crouch was given the job of being Baz's temper mentor. I don't think that matches public perceptions (esp Aker's!).

I hope Brett does a great job as captain this weekend - as Roos said he has done the job before. It has been suggested that Stewie may play next year but there may be a change to a new captain for a smooth changeover. It'll be interesting to see if the team want the same captain that we do.

Not sure I agree with you on all points (but I'm sure that we'll both sleep tonight), however I am happy that Kirk got the role. My opinion fwiw is that BBBB would be great.

On Maxfield, I do recall Rocket in early 2002 (or late 2001) saying that Maxy was the logical successor to PK so I certainly wasn't surprised that he was anointed. Kirky has modelled himself on Maxy with the extra work that he does, so I'm not surprised to see him get the nod this week. And whilst your Primus analogy does have merit, your Aker analogy doesn't. (IMO!)

For me, it's Hall captain, Kirk VC.

I've been wanting it for over a year and have had threads suggesting Captain Kirk for ages. I see no reason to change at this stage, even though Bazza is, IMO, a genuine option for captain when I didn't feel he was in the middle of last year.

I say give the captaincy to Benny Boy. Someone or some people at club level thinks this bloke has some qualities, so why don't they put their judgement where their mouth is.

The worry with Benny Boy being captain is that he may have to be a team player and go out of his 10 metre playing radius. Players usually like to kick it to the captain for brown nosing reasons. If Benny is captain he won't be on the end of a pass.

Talk about Healy being a "give it to me player". Benny epitomises the term.

On Healy, he did have 3 things in abundance - courage, anticipation and skill.

I thought Healy was a fantastic player and given he won 3 B&Fs I would believe the coaching staff thought so also. Given he retired when you were nine, how much do you remember of him?
