Something I love about the SCG

I love the grunt when the umpy throws the ball in. This was initially a members side of the ground thing, wasn't it? (Maybe it still is, the telly doesn't show where the grunt is coming from). Does it happen when the Swans play at Telstra Stadium?

Also, I used to love the Swantits and the group of goal umpires that once attended but they must have fallen off the bandwagon.

The crowd used to grunt with the umpire for a while their, it was quite funny!!

I think its just more inviting that Telstra, a bit of a mish mash of old and new stands, gives it a bit of character.

But I have to say the old folk that get behind the MA Noble goal posts are really starting to #@%* me..

There is one old girl there who terrorises the umpires when they do their ground and post inspection - Jesus with that old girl trying to plant a kiss on ya, no wonder the umps give so many penalties against us - its punishment!

Dunno about the grunt - I havent heard it near the MA Noble for a while. With this weekends game being on a Saturday night, I reckon we'll hear our first loud ssssyyyyyddneeeeyyyyy chant for the year. Sat nights = more blokes drinking beer and that always helps to lubricate that chant.

The Swantits and the goal upmpires were fun at the time. I know that for some of the guys who were in the Swantits, what started as a one off poke some fun send up of the Swanettes suddenly went a bit too far for them and they chose to shy away from their growing celebrity drag status.

At one stage when I used to reside in the Dally M stand, there was a group who sat in the front of the BO'R stand Paddo end and would wear the opposition colours every week.

What about the "1 Tony Lockett" Conductor (tress?)

The Swantits were great.

But let's not forget the original Swannettes either. In the Edelstein years they would dance in the pre-match luncheon too, close up they were even more scary.

And what about the day that Plugger lined up a kick (for Saints) and aimed at the Swannettes behind the Paddo goal, and they fell off their chairs like ninepins as a low kick split the troupe!

They are living treasures! They have been watching the Swans play from that spot at every single SCG game since the very first game the Swans played in Sydney.

Hell I wouldnt go that far - one of them (a woman) pushed through the line at the bar as if she owned the place. And gave anyone who questioned it a gob full! No way my nanna would have gone on like that!

I fisrt started going in the Swannettes' last year, and nearly fell over when we brought my uncle to a match - he squinted at them dancing on the field at half time and came out with "so that's what she looks like with her top on!" - Turns out he'd seen her waitressing at a topless bar in the Cross!

I love the way it feels more intimate than Telstra we're all on top of each other.

And night games aren't as chilly.

That shows then and there that they are NOT professionally into the drag scheme. Like what self-respecting drag queen would EVER shy about from attention and celebrity status!

The goal umpires couldn't come back once the Cheer squad plonked its way behind the goals again. Now the tickets in the next bay are all set seating, so it would be luck of the draw to get front row and in a big group.
