    Roosy...

What are everyones thoughts on him. There have been quite a few comments about his tactics, or lack there of, but what does everyone see for him over the coming weeks, months etc? Will he come under scrutiny or lift the team to pick up their game?
    - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

He is still the best young coach out there IMO, and I have faith he will help the team recapture the 2003 form soon enough.

Every coach goes through tough times with his team. It's the nature of the competition. This is where you find out the true mettle of a coach. He may not turn it around this year but if he's as good as some of us think (and hope) he is, he will do it.

And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

If he could find some decent forwards, that might help!!

Exactly you can't build a forward line around one man - Hall. It's too easy to cover one option. But apart from lacking a forward line, there is basically no midfield and no key position backmen. Hard to know which problem is the biggest.

And when th ball hit the ground it came out of there too easily. In the game against Hawthorn all the forwards chased hard and put pressure on the defenders. Last night Bizzel controlled proceedings nicely.

Last night, the Swans would have been just as good if they had no coach and just worked it out for themselves. That is two games in a row that has been dropped by poor coaching. We have the players! They just need to be used better and be given better tactics.

(I lost all faith in Roos when he pulled McVeigh after his holding the ball. Screw around with the young players and don't dare touch the more senior players seems to be his unprofessional motto).

I would bet that if Roos were to get dropped midseason and another coach came in (a la Roos) and made some "obvious" (a la Roos) changes, the Swans would finish the year off in style then have a great 2006 (a la Roos).

Having played a lot of sport(state level netball, basketball, hockey, touch football) and been associated with people in Australian teams(yes in the biblical sense) I've seen a lot of coaches and styles. I think Roosy is a good one. But that is my bias as I relate to coaches who are calm but communicative. There are problems but he is still a good coach.

I intensely dislike Terry Wallace as he seems to me to be a user of people for his own ends and I have no time for Sheedy. To me John Worsfold is up there due to his analytical mind and the way he relates to the players.
My girls and I went to Perth one summer and watched West Coast train as my eldest is an Eagles supporter and I could tell that they were never going to go well under that Ex Hawthorn coach they had as they was no connection between him and the players and that was just pre season.

At one Swans Ball in Melbourne The tension between The players and Eade was so thick you could cut it with a knife. That was the last time I saw him.

Coaching is a funny thing and I know I have lots of sleepless nights worrying about The Ulverstone High netball teams so I can't even imagine what AFL coaches have to go through.

You have to separate Sheedy, Matthews, Malthouse, Pagan and Williams (in no particular order) as the best five. They've proven themselves by winning a premiership. The other eleven haven't.

The question then becomes, where does Roos fit amongst the unproven eleven? IMO, he's ahead of Craig, Clarkson (both haven't had long enough yet though), Connolly (Dockers are inconsistent underacheivers), Laidley (hasn't made finals) and Thomas (until he proves us wrong and St Kilda wins a premiership, which could well happen in spite of the fruitcake they have in the coaching box).

He's either slightly ahead, roughly par with or slightly behind Thompson, Daniher, Worsfold (very borderline... WC ooze class but can't see out a season. Worsfold needs to win a final before the question marks are lifted), Eade and Wallace. I think he's ahead of at least a couple of that lot, and believe he could be clearly ahead of all of them. Time will tell.

It's a fine line between being a great communicator and ensuring the players maintain respect for you. Sometimes decisions like pulling McVeigh off can backfire but can also be salutary lessons. Someone should have told him he was 'hot', but young players also have to develop a better awareness rather than stroll around as if there is no pressure. Roos appears to still have the players and he does well in stats such as stoppages where coaches make a difference. Coaches are judged on this sort of criterion. Thomas would have to stuff up badly for the Saints not to make the finals with the cattle he has at his disposal.

Gee I reckon he might have lost at least one player. The body language of Mathews was not great on Sat. 73 minutes on the ground was about the worst he has had for years.

Roos still looks OK. Only others I would be interested in are Daniher, Worsfold and Pagan. Definitely not Wallace.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
