I can only argue what i believe mate. I still feel that our players are not made hurt after losses like players from other clubs. They can go out after a loss and feel no sense of letting anyone down. Because in this city they still remain mainly unknown.

And anyone having the 'temerity' to pass comment on their performance is often treated extremely patronising. Ross Lyon's attitude at the 'after-match' (if you could call it that) on Saturday night was proof for my argument. He patronised a member who yelled out "Kick in long", then got out of there as quickly as he could.

i hate to be seen as a 'bad egg' in terms of being criticial of the team and players. Especially considering my deemed status of being an "official supporter of the club". BUT if there is a negative culture prevalent at the club, which I unfortunately think IS the case, I think it would be remiss of me to not comment on it.

I will be there to support the side in Perth in spite of everything.

Is this for real? Who got out quickly, Lyon or the member? Very interesting if it was Lyon. More details?

Lyon is good at walking out. Stood out of footy for a year at Fitzroy to go to Carlton for more dough.

Minimum AFL first year wage is $44,300 plus match payments and bonuses. Consider also that the average career length of an AFL player is currently 2.9 years, and many are lucky to get more than a handful of games. Earning more than $50,000 for a LOT of young AFL players is unlikely.

The current average annual income for full-time adults (as at Nov 2004) is $50,596. That is exclusive of overtime, bonuses and penalty rates, and includes both sexes (when women are on average on slightly lower wages for the same work... still).

Sure it looks great to earn $50k when you are fresh out of school, but if you average out the total earning capacity of ANY player over their total employable lifetime, they are not great earners. And I know plenty of apprentice plumbers who at 19 earn way more than $50k.

fair comment all of you - but, and I agree with ROK, things just dont seem quite right. they are not playing like a confident happy team.

We can be super positive etc (and for the most part, most of us are) but the thing is none of us - unless they work within the club, really knows whats going on behind the scenes.

Yes Baz was pissed off with everyone, Leo kept going for the impossible spectacular mark so as to make his 150th memorable which in some ways was selfish and normally ended up with a Melbourne goal. The hand passing was insane and
the decision making was nothing short of appalling.
The whole thing was a shambles. So what is the cause? We know they can play better, much better.

Perhaps their is some underlying tension because of Baz's contract, and lets face it he hasnt played that well since putting pen to paper. Maybe there are other players in the team who feel they are worthy of the same - we just dont know.!

Again the "us" (leadership group) and "them" (the others) may be having an effect, just not the right one.. WE JUST DONT KNOW!

But its a business, and like any business when it comes to salaries and position there is always someone who will not be happy when someone else does better than they do. (And I see it here with senior management all the time).

So I'm ready for the inevitable "Wardy you are talking our of your arse" but thats what I think, like it or not.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Wardy you are talking our of your arse!!!!!!!

But in your business do you know what your work mates are being paid?? Do you know how much more your leaders are getting as opposed to you??? Is there salary or your salary details plastered in the media??? No.

I'm sure some people are not happy about what others are getting, but I reckon there is something more, something deeper.

Hall was just so despondent!! Maybe he missed Maxfields on field leadership.

Thank you - just what I expected.

You get a bit of an idea in our annual report - then we all sit and whinge about it!. (We had a mass walk out of our placement dept last week - the hoo har that caused as they went to the opposition and the $$$ mentioned was nothing short of amazing!)

Agree it could be something deeper - but what ???

Unless the gals on the panel here, we should go and give em all a big hug and tell them that we love them - actually that may scare them, perhaps not such a good idea...

The players met yesterday and Roos indicated that the group blamed Barry Hall, Michael O'Loughlin and the other forwards for recent low scores and poor results.

You might new some, but the average annual salary is about where the minimum salary plus for AFL players is (what is your source for that number?). Most people who will earn more than $45K don't do so for a few years. Most players currently playing earn more than the minimum.

Plenty of them do well enough to play for a few years, put a bit away and get some useful contacts.

For the players who don't, they have still earnt decent money for a few years, usually more than most their age, done some training (most clubs encourage this) and made some useful contacts.

It's hardly a bad start in a footy-mad city and it certainly doesn't hurt their chances relative to others who don't play football.

It's a good gig whatever way you look at it.
