Perfect time to blood some youngsters. Not much expectation to win. Get to have a go against the best side going around atm. We mollycoddle the youngsters too much. Throw them in at the deep end occasionally and let them show what they have got. Gently, gently welfare crap is great off the field; settling them in to Sydney, minimising homesickness, developing them as human beings etc, it's something that Sydney have learnt to do well, but ffs they are footballers. Time to get rid of the cotton wool. Future champions will emerge from a hot environment. Let's give a few a chance to put their hand up.

Richmond are playing 3 top 20 draftees from last year's draft this weekend, and have played Deledio all season. Are they doing any worse than we are???

IIRC Saddo was our last draftee (excluding players who were recycled) to play seniors in his first year at the club in 1998.

Why do all the other clubs seem to be able to play draftees so early and yet we insist on making them wait an eternity?

If the answer is because they aren't good enough, then why did we draft them in the first place????

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Please play Schauble. If he's fit enough to name as an emergency then surely he is fit enough to play. We need him at full back.

Young Moore must be excited, knowing he only has to be named emergency another 10 or 11 times before he finally gets a chance.

If he's fit enough to be an emergency, then why the bloody hell isnt he named in the side?

And if he isnt fit enough to play, then why risk having to play him if Jolly misses out? We see time and time again what happens when the swans play underdone guys. Mathews has been shocking all season, so has Crouch, MOL is struggling, and that's just this season. Every year we insist on playing guys who are carrying an injury that should sideline them, and it costs us badly during the game.

            Absolutely ludicrous decision, IMO.

Very good question. On Sydney's list are:

Ericksen. 20 y.o, been on the list for 2 years, has played no games
                Davis: 19, 2 years for 0 games.
                Sunquist: 23, 5 years for 0 games
                Malceski: 21 3 years for 0 games
                Schmidt: 19, 2 years for 0 games
                Willoughby: 19, 2 years for 0 games
                Dempster: 21 3 years for 3 games
                Powell, 21: 4 years for 8 games
                James: 25, 7 years for 18 games
                McVeigh: 20, 3 years for 23 games
                Buchanan: 23, 5 years for 27 games
                Fixter: 24, 5 years for 27 games

I can see some hope here, but also some cause for concern? What makes this particularly debilitating for the club is that these guys spend their time trashing local teams in the Canberra league, which probably does them more harm than good?

                Issues:

                1. Too many 'project' players
                2. Turnover of list too slow
                3. For some reason we tend to draft tall kids we are skinny, which then gives cause for further delayed development.
                4. Several cases where players with long term injuries have been given too much time. History shows that whilst it is humane to keep them on, it is seldom does the club benefit.

Strewth, that is an amazing read - well done. The comparison with most other clubs (with perhaps the exception of a Brisbane or maybe a Carlton) must be boggling.

Nice that we can nurse these blokes thru but I think your list of issues raises some very good points.

I think it's time for him to be let go. He might be well liked etc. at the club, he may have a great work ethic and will to play, but in the end he's not done (or doing) the club any good onfield, where it matters the most.

Sometimes its more humane to ask the vet to put to them to sleep.

actually they get beaten from time to time, i don't think they have ever finished top. It used to be much worse, i.e. they played in the Sydney league, one man down to "even things up".

Not exactly the best way for the youngsters to learn.

                            Great research BTW

Not doing them any favours either - let them try their chances somewhere else.

Buchanan might be harsh call tho you might think this season represents his last roll of the dice.

Must admit to be very keen on playing a few kids and letting a few old soaks have a GHLAY. Could be tantamount however to admitting the season is over (well, I think it is, but I'm a pessimist) but I daresay Roosy & the footy dept are not prepared to make that call after five rounds.

                                Good stats Legs. Scary.
