Do you want priority picks?

I've noticed allready a bit of talk going around that some people want the swans to lay down and play for draft picks. I was just interested to see what sort of mumber there were.

So do u want the swans to lay down and play for picks, or give the rest of the season a red hot go with what we have and try to bust through for a come from behind premeirship.

I definatly want the swans to give the season their best, even if they only limp into the finals, it better than losing all year to draft some bleached haired brat from melbourne who once we develop him will cry for mummy and go play for a melbourne team.

i definitely want the team put out on the paddock each week to do their best and for the time being the match commitee to select their strongest team each week. come the point where we're not getting any further (eg being 7-3 after 10 weeks) then i'd like to see a sincere youth development policy come in whereby we start working for next year.

deliberately tanking a season for picks sickens me and hasn't been demonstrated to work anyway. apart from anything else, aren't the priority picks discarded?

Wouldn't that be best way to push AFL along in this state?

Remember, draft picks are a consolation, not a reward - I keep saying that!

At the end of the season, I want to be able to say one of two things:

1) We are getting mid-range picks again, but at least we won a lot of games, or

2) we lost a lot of games, but at least we are getting good draft picks.

I don't want to say "hey, we got what we wanted, which was good draft picks" at the expense of trying our hardest to win each game.

Aren't the AFL re structuring the priority draft picks??

There is no guarantee that draft picks will be available to Sydney after playing fianls footy for the last 2 years.

The system isn't going to be changed this year so we had better get in and get good picks before other teams, such as Collingwood, Essendon and even Port (all teams who haven't had high picks for quite a while) take all the good players.How do you think Collingwood will get Jonathan Brown? Come last and have first pick in the pre-season draft and get him for nothing! ( I am not saying he will go but it is a good illustration of how the system works).

i strongly feel that to play the season deliberately to come as low as possible is despicable. there is no way i will be renewing my membership to this club if i perceive them to take that tactic.

secondly, players still get to name their price for the pre-season draft and i imagine brown will be asking 400-600 k per year, which is a long way off nothing so it's actually a really bad example of how your poor idea of a strategy works.

tanking is the lowest idea in our game.

Tanking is being suggested on Bomber blitz as well.

Maybe all teams out of the top 4 could tank the rest of the year.

Come on! It's only coming up for ROUND 7 - we could win every match from here, finish the season with 18 wins and romp it home in the finals to win the flag! I'd say unlikely, but you never know, and to start thinking about October/November in May is just plain stupid when we're not even deadset outright last.

Were Brisbane's fans calling for priority picks last week after they were bottom of the ladder?

I agree that it's too early to consider priority picks and finishing last, particularly as the next 7 weeks presents a good opportunity.

What baffles me more though is why people ever compare us to Brisbane supporters...

I used it as an example because comparatively speaking, bottom of the ladder to a brisbane fan would be pretty harsh stuff given the heights of recent years. But I don't expect them to start saying "let's go the priority picks." I would expect supporters of clubs who have been well and truly down there like Hawthorn to maybe want to make the call about now, but for the rest of us, the thought of throwing matches when finals and even premierships can still be won is absurd. I'm not saying I think we are a chance if we keep on playing this way though, but I do think that if we switch on and get it right we can beat any team in the competition, and if we do that consistently, a premiership isn't that far away.

tanking is lame, but it is up to the AFL to change the system in order for it to stop being an attractive option to clubs who are going poorly.
