I think that this was organised before Ireland came to the Swans.
No it wasn't, he was the one who instigated that change because it would save the club 200K - whoopee bloody do.

    200K out of 20M - brilliant decision.

Too hard for the blokes to come out of the ACTAFL straight into the AFL - a massive step. I bet Vogels had a harder time in the Hampden league.

      The decision was made because

      a) It was costing the club too much money to send down 12 players weekly to Melbourne and having to pay Port's VFL licence fee at the same time. The decision was made, as the Swans were being told by the AFL to cut costs in their football department and were about to report a $2 million loss for the 2002 season (our last in the VFL)
      b) because Port would only allow 12 Swans "fill-ins" each week, we had some of our reserves playing in Melbourne, with the rest playing for the Redbacks in the Sydney League with fill ins from the NSW Rams. Therefore our rookies had trouble getting use to teammates as a result.
      c) The "fill-ins" for Port, flew in on the day of the game and never trained with their Port Melbourne teammates, thus has trouble getting use to gameplan's and what their teammates might do in certain situations.
      d) The Swans coaching staff had no control over how Port used our players, thus if we wanted say a Jarrad Sunqvist to play as a midfielder for the whole game, David Dumbar would follow those wishes and used Sundqvist how he best fit into Port's gameplan.
      e) The Swans who were playing for the Redback, had little competition (even less than what they get now), were banned from playing in the finals regardless of where they finished and I believe at times had to play with 16 players to allow the other teams to have a chance of winning.

So the reason we are playing in the Canberra League is because the cost is less and the reserves all play together and are not split between two states each week.
      Once was, now elsewhere

This is a real problem, and may well hurt us going forward. It is hard to know if some of the younger brigades poor disposal is due to this lack of quality oppo week in week out, but it cant help. Liz's point about ease of next possesion is very valid.

I know its not ideal, but i would send them back to the VFL also.

Far out, I didn't realise McVeigh kicked that many goals (he missed a sitter from in front too!). That's an unbelievable stat considering he almost played the entire game in the midfield.

Seems to be a bit like LRT. Everytime he plays in the reserves he absolutely dominates but just hasnt been able to make the step up to seniors yet.

Good to see Malceski's game was also rated highly.

Also, finally they may get a decent contest next week against Belconnen.

I think this is damn fine idea. It's a wonder that the AFL or the Swans has not looked at it already.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

The Swans have never won the ACTFL competition (in fact last year we barely made the finals), so it seems a little pre-mature to want to drop out of that competition because it's too easy.

Maybe this year we will in which case then perhaps we can start talking about it being too easy.

Frankly I think a lot of credit should be going to Big Earl who is giving our midfielders a wonderfull ride.

Obviously it's a very uneven competition, but it always has been. The ACTFL have brought in outside teams to replace really bad local temas to try and boost the quality and evenness (strangely enough Wagga is included for this reason but Campbelltown and Batemens Bay have also been in the ACTFL in the last decade or so.
