Hey, I'm as bored with this as you are - it'd be okay if it was to fill in time while waiting for Lloyd to kick but I'm just checking back to RWO while trying to check a book contract.

I just said what I thought was the bleeding obvious: if you aren't a Swans club member then you are not part of the Swans (unless you are an employee I should add for the pedants out there).

I really was surprised to find there were people regularly posting on RWO who are not members. If you are that interested, why wouldn't you want to be part of the club?

Despite the boring legalities, the thread has been interesting. And at least it has answered why I keep running into the same RWOers at the game every week - and why very few are the most regular posters here.

Well all I know is I support the Swans, I watch all the games on the box, I get to the games live when I can and I spend too much bloody time on this forum. And when my circumstances permit I'll become a member (as I have been in the past)

Not sure if that makes me a "part" of the Swans nor do I partic care. But I'm pretty certain it does give me the right to express an opinion on this forum.

Can't agree with that. There are all sorts of people who are "part of the Swans" in their own way - some members, many not. Surely the battle to win over Sydney (while not cutting our SM ties ) is largely dependent on how many non-committed we can convince to consider themselves "part of the Swans".

And that doesn't just cover potential future members, it covers the corporate world - via potential new sponsors as well as current ones and their employees and shareholders who support that ongoing sponsorship, it covers the media who have so much power over the exposure the club gets, it covers the state / city officialdom who have some influence over funding, facilities, even relatively trivial things like transport co-operation for games.

It covers the casual TV audience who contribute to C10's ongoing commitment to broadcast the Swans during prime-time, and who may impact the future broadcasting rights (thus indirectly affecting the influence of the Swans throughout the competition.

It includes mums and dads who may have no personal interest in the Swans but take their kids along to watch the odd game, kids who may become the members of the future (or even maybe the players of the future).

Being a part of anything is in the eye, mind and heart of the individual and there are many many different ways of being a part of anything.

The more inclusive the club is, the stronger will be its future.

Who cares! Member or non-member, if you give up your time and your heart to watch em' you're a part of it not 'apart'!!!!!
Only difference is members can whinge about the money they've dished out as well as poor performance and likely won't receive a phone call from Morwood.

What a crock of crap this has become. Memebership for me is a financial decision. I weigh up how many games I am likely to get to and where I want to sit against the cost of a membership. Whichever is cheaper I will take. I has nothing to do with caps, cards, social club memberships, discounts at Puma, letters from players with genuine facsimilie signatures, or the feeling of belonging to the club (I find meaning for my life elsewhere). This year I am a Swans country member and a Kangroos Canberra member. I give no support to the Kangas at their Canberra games (I gave the hat to a kid at the Swans games) but the membership provides entry to 3 games for about the cost of 2. If it helps the club - well good for them. I want a healthy, vialble AFL competition and if they are prepared to bring their product here then I am prepared to support it. Make your membership mean whatever you want to but dont overlay your expectations on to others' experiences. And whoever mentioned it above, family memberships are great value, once the kids are big enough.

You're not a Swans fan if you're not a member? What bull@@@@. I'm a member this year, but have found myself in the position where I have a commitment every Sunday (of which I can get 2/3 weekends off) so I've had to miss one Swans game and will miss more. I wasn't thinking straight when I bought the membership this year, but I probably won't renew next year because its not worth the $$$ for me. It all depends on the number of Sunday arvo games, and nothing to do with how much I love the Swans.

I've been around but much scarcer than before.

I managed to increase the amount of kids at my house from 2 to 6 so that has kept me busy

But with the Swans losses, well, I decided that I would be better off emotionally not coming to the board to read all the pessimism.

I shall appear after a win.

I emailed Roosey and let him know that the Swans need to win to be able to read all the insightful comments I make here and he said that may just be the inspiration the players need.

So there you have it, if we tie together three successive wins, then officially the Swans are playing for me.
